Greetings ....

David Duval, out of action for much of 2007 due to a major family issue, is as of now scheduled to play in the Viking Mississippi Classic (formerly Southern Farm Bureau Classic) in Madison, MS on September 27-30.

I know that the "major family issue" was his wife's difficult pregnancy. I assume that she has successfully given birth, otherwise Duval might not be back out playing so soon after. But, as to when the birth occurred and what child Mrs. Duval had is not known to me right now.

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

I'm sorry if David's family is having a tough time. That's awful.

I hope he manages to feel better and come back. But, as a player, he is one of my most disliked. There is nothing enjoyable to watch about Duvall's game or personality, whether he's shooting an 89 or a 59. I'd rather watch Phil....well, wait...now I have a dilemma.....

Duval has a Tiger-esque aura about him. He's the guy you either love, or love to hate, like everyone feels about tiger. no one can argue about his game, though. he does have talent, not sure why he fell off the map, but wouldn't it be fun to see him regain form and make a run at the fedex cup against tiger or phil? that would be exciting. Daly would have the same affect.

What are you smoking? I think it's more like "who's that?" Duval was on top for so short a period of time most people never formed an opinion and half or more of golf fans have probably forgotten about him by now.

Nobody has a "Tiger-esque aura" but Tiger. C'mon, that's just silly talk.

Duval had a solid game and he peaked at the right time, when Tiger was rebuilding his swing. He never had the charisma of Tiger or Phil. I think most people who followed golf found him to be more of the "anti-Tiger." He seemed to be a guy that a lot of people, including myself for a short time, cheered against. He was just a damn good golfer that was driven to win. I went through a sort of transformation with him myself. When he was always comming close I pulled for him to win. Once he got over and started to win a lot, combined with Tiger's brief lull, I started to cheer against him. He seemed to be too aloof and almost snobish. Then I learned more about the guy and actually started to like him again. He is a tell it like he see's it guy. That rubs people the wrong way at times. I would like to see him regain that type of game as he always seemed to be a soild player in the Ryder and President's Cups.

Yeah, nobody has a "Tiger-esque aura" about him... but Tiger. That's crazy talk. Guess that's why it's Tiger-esque

But, I do see the general idea of what he's saying. Duval has sort of the same type of following as John Daly, little different I guess, but they are similar. And Big John hasn't done a damn thing in a while but people certainly haven't forgotten about him. I really don't think "half or more" golf fans have forgotten about Duval. Many golf fans love to root for the comeback story and I think that's what makes Duval and Daly so appealing. You know if he were in contention of a big event on Sunday he'd have a loud following. I would love to see him get back out there and start playing better golf again. But... I like to keep the expectations to an obtainable level. Saying it would be nice to see him contend for the FedEx Cup with Tiger and Phil next year is laughable and to me, quite unrealistic.

Hummm. no! this is a recent issue.. Mr. Duval for a few years now has been going through some major personal mental conflicts pertaining to his game. As far as i'm concern he was a shooting star.... fizzled out.

Heres what i meant by Tiger-esque. You know how when Tiger plays, you see every one of his shots on TV? That was Duval when he was on top. Now that he seems to have lost his game, when he starts making birdies the TV coverage all of a sudden turns to him.

He has a following of both cheers and jeers. People want to see if he's making a come back, whether they like him or not. I think people are hungry for a rival for Tiger. Phil has some flashes of greatness, and then he misses four or five cuts in a row, only to flash again. We all love Tiger (don't we?) but I think we want to see someone challenge him on a regular basis.

I've always liked David mainly because of his golf game. He could really go low, which is always fun to watch. I can still remember watching him shoot his 59. I would love to see him make a complete comeback, which might never happen. But then again, look at what Steve Stricker has done.

Plus, no one else on tour can pull off the shades like Dave.

My wife hated Duval for his shades. I think that it hides your emotions and people don't really know what to think.

My good buddy and I were trash talking on the course this weekend and I had my shades on for one of the bouts. He really didn't know if I was serious or not. Eyes tell a lot in conversation. Duval is the current long shot in the horse race. He's a dark horse's dark horse. IF he even won an EVENT let alone challenge for the tour title it would be major golf news. Duval's a head case and I don't see him contending any more. I would watch it if he did though.

I don't think people have forgotten about Duval....you're right...there IS something about him...he comes across snobbish....although, I'm not sure if he is or not. No-nonsense to a fault maybe?

Definitely talented, when he's on. I mean, I remember back when Stricker was good the first time....and others like Paul Stankowski...he seemed to have potential. But, Duval was "up there." And he fell HARD. Would like to see him come back and contend.

I like him cause he Fly Fishes!!!

Hi

i will look forward to seeing DD play again and well. Duval and Daly cannot be compared because Double D has been a better player than John Daly has ever been...also, as much as i admire JD in a strange sort of way, DD has integrity, which is something that JD doesn't really have.

The thing with DD is that he is a private person, and there lies the conflict with what he does for a living, or at least used to.

I've always liked David. Just because he doesn't slam his club into the ground or curse after a bad shot, nor jump three feet in the air and fist pump after a great shot, does not mean he does not have a personality.

The sunglasses, IIRC, are because he has sensitive eyes. That's why he's always worn the wrap-arounds, too - they keep more light out. I don't think he's doing it to "hide his emotions" or to "keep people out." I'm fairly certain I remember that he has some eye condition where he's sensitive to extra light or allergies or something. If so, it'd be silly to judge him based on his always wearing glasses.

It was my wife that didn't like the shades. Chicks

I think that it's similar to Retief Goosen and how he just plays with no outward emotion. People don't get to see what his personality is like. I do prefer the players to show emotion as it gives more insight to what they are feeling but it's not a pre requisite for me to like a player. I like when Retief was pissed about the media talking about the Fab 4 when Tiger, Phil, Ernie and Vijay were 1-4 (I think that was how they were ranked) and Retief was 5th. Then he got to 4th in the world and Retief says something like. Now the media can talk about the top 3 now. Jabbing for leaving him out of the top player talk when he was 5th. They left him out because he doesn't give the audience enough to go on for emotion. Again, it's not a pre requisite for me to like a player but it has an effect on fan base.

It was several people who commented on his sunglasses, so I wanted to set the record straight. You know, based on my memory of something I may have gotten wrong.

I've always heard that was the reason for the sunglasses. His eyes are very sensitive to light. I always thought he looked good in the glasses.

I wished I would have taken the time to do a pencil sketch of him back when I was drawing some of the pros.
