Moving my lead knee laterally?

I have some trouble sliding my hips and getting into proper position at impact. When I mentally think about sliding my hips, my timing is almost always off. I realize this is something that may come with time, but I've been solely practicing this, slowly and deliberately for a long time now and I still can't get it right.

I came across an article somewhere that talks about moving the lead knee laterally to start the downswing. Coincidentally, I have very active knees in my swing, which I know is a bad thing. But let's just say...if I reduced flex and movement in my rear leg, is it ok to use your lead knee to initiate the downswing as opposed to your hips? I tried this for a long time yesterday and found that my weight is more forward at impact. Perhaps this move is making my hips slide more to the target. I'm not quite sure, it doesn't feel that way. All I know is that my impact position is better.

Is this something I should move forward with?

Greg Norman, a two-time major championship winner and Hall of Famer, uses fluid knee motion to get his lower body to lead the club back to the ball. As his club reaches the top of the backswing, Norman moves his left knee laterally along the target line. Then his right knee fires toward the target, and that leads the shoulders, arms and club into the downswing. The lower body has a head start, but the club gains speed on the way down and catches up to the rest of the body at impact. Norman’s sequence, using the knees to drive the lower body and lead the club, produces tremendous clubhead speed at impact for powerful shots.

I think this is something that should work.   When I first tried to actively slide my hips forward I had trouble with my upper body, and head, sliding with it.  A feel I was using the other day, while hitting into my net, was to get my lead knee forward and outside my lead foot.  seemed to produce some very nice contact.  I need to get it on video, but I think it is a feel that is going to work for me.  I would like to here from some of the experts on this topic as well.

There are lots of ways to feel this move. The knee feel can be a good one. Lately I have had pretty good results with the "crush the can" type feels. I just pretend I have a big pressure switch under my lead foot and try to push down on it as hard as I can in transition combined with some other stuff that's pretty specific to my motion (which I'll leave out).

The important thing is not what you feel, but what you're actually doing. Best thing in the world is to set up a FO video camera and experiment with a bunch of different feels until you find the one that gives you the best results. It may be a popular feel from discussions on here or from articles from some pro or it may even be something unique that you discover on your own. Again, doesn't matter what feel gets you there as long as you get there.
