I figured it's the off-season for a lot of us... and I would ask about newer clubs... I'm not per se made of money so this might take a bit to throw together but here it goes... I love the Exotics line of Clubs I have XCG3 Driver and 4-wood but it's been almost three years so its time for an upgrade... In another thread I talked about inexpensive hybrids and I believe I may have found a line I like in the XCG6 maybe the previous with the XCG5... Looking into drivers and fairways as well in the XCG5 and XCG6 line... I really don't have the cash (until tax return comes) to get the E8 which is sweet hitting by the way... I was looking at getting a 10.5° Driver and either a 15° 3-wood or the 16.5° 4-wood, then the 3h and 4h, then probably with the CNC or V-Blades going 4-PW, 52, 56, putter or with the case of carrying the 4w just a 4h 4-pw and so on... I know WUTIGER has hit these in the past... if anyone else wants to put their two cents in it would be appreciated...

About 4 months ago I was shopping for a 3H, and I demo'ed a Tour Edge 19 degree hybrid, I thought it was a really good club. At the time I was going through a swing change, and wound up with the Adams, with the ti face. If I were in the market for driver, woods, or hybrids, I would for sure give them a try. Sorry, that's all I got.

I have the XCG6 hybrids (3) and a XCG7 Beta driver. All four were less around $350 shipped. Driver was used but mint. Haven't spent enough time to comment on liking them other than they look good.

So much of it is preference, ability and needs relative to the most common course conditions we experience. I needed hybrids to even out some gaps at the long end of the bag and because fairways didn't work great in the rough we have here. I don't use those clubs much but if I miss a fairway on a par 5 I need some versatility. Also I had some odd gaps so long par 3's were tough to play. I hit my 7w about 25-30 yards longer than the next shortest club. I decided to go with no fairway woods and sacrifice a little distance for versatility. Really don't need a 3w.

I had tried out the Exotics XCG6 fairway wood, both 3W and 4W. Here's my comments from last year:

From WUTiger, on 8/23/14:

... At a past golf Demo Day, the Tour Edge rep (Exotics FW maker) was checking out people on FWs. Depending in part on how players came into the ball at impact, some players could hit a 4W farther - and more accurately - than a 3W. This included a couple of long hitters who carried their driver shots 270+.

(Recent golf tests show the average golfer can hit the 4W better than the 3W, but it also applies to certain better players.)

I ended up getting the more user-friendly TE XRail.

In your case : First of all, see if the 3W or 4W works best for you. Then, compare the higher-lofted 5W and 7W vs. the 3H and 4H. If you select two FWs, a (3W + 5W) or (4W + 7W) combo would probably work best for distance gapping.

You just have to see whether higher-lofted FWs or the hybrids work best for you. Note: shops that carry TE Exotics often have some clearance or used Exotic FWs and hybrids you could test out.

You'll get the best results if you can go for a fitting. Go to the Tour Edge site, http://www.touredge.com/ and search for a TE fitter in your area. (Often TE fitters are in smaller, non-chair golf shops).

There is actually an authorized fitter pretty close to me, then there is Greater Golf in Endicott too... this is off-topic but am thinking of possibly getting the Exotics CU irons, after I demoed these I could not get over the fact that they are forgiving and workable (plus within my price range)

LBlack14 ,

Full name of my 4W is the TE Exotics XRail | 16.5°.

The XRail models are SGI woods and hybrids within the Exotics line. The XRail has a v-sole technology in the head, a toe and heel weighting to help straighten out the shots. It's slightly low profile, so it launches the ball nicely. Off the turf, I get about 210 yards from the 4W and about 195 from the 7W. (That 7W is magic - it's my go-go longer club.)

The regular Exotics E8 would be the equivalent of the Callaway X2 Hot, and the Exotics E8-Beta the X2Hot Pro (Beta has slightly smaller head). There's also the Exotics CB Pro, which has a more forward COG to promote lower spin and slightly lower flight (if you've got high swingsweep, this is your club. :-D )

I just don't quite have the swing to use the Exotics. I tried both the regular Exotics and the XRail at a demo day, and XRail was a lot more reliable and almost as long.  If I got to where I shot in the 80s all the time, I would upgrade to Exotics.

I know exactly what they are. My thing is they are tiny compared to the XCG. Size does matter when it comes to forgiveness which is a key characteristic of an "SGI" club, imo.

WUTiger, apparently TourEdge has a big announcement coming next Monday, the teaser I guess is something to do with the Exotics line, but I'm not sure what

Won't surprise me if they're being bought by another company or going out of business. I, quite frankly, don't see how they've made it this long. Not because of lack of quality, but just plain obscurity.

I really just discovered the Tour Edge Exotics line within the last year. I have been buying some of their closeout stuff on line at really great prices. I first ordered the XCG6 fairway wood 15 degree and found it to be the hottest fairway wood I've ever hit. I then saw the XCG6 drivers being closed out at great deals so I ordered a 10.5 degree, regular shaft (Matrix Ozik) same as the fairway wood. I hesitated because reviews were not that glowing but I took a chance anyway. I have had very good luck with it, the only negative is the sound it makes at impact but the performance is there.  I am now looking at a XCG7 hybrid that is being closed out, at what appears to me to be a decent price.

Whatever the announcement, I am a Tour Edge Exotics fan, I think their products are quality at a good price.

Hopefully it is good news. Seems they struggle in obscurity and retailers are always blowing out old new old stock. I just bought a set of new CU's 4-PW for $169. I'll sell the shafts on ebay for half that.

Where did you find the CU's that cheap?

Put the XC6 hybrids into action today. Extremely forgiving and easy to hit. Despite heavy wind got really good ditance. The 2h is going to be a great 3w replacement. On a 378 yard par 4 (card distance) it left me a 124y approach. The XCG7 Beta driver felt okay but not sure about the stock shaft, loved the Matrix in the hybrids but the Fukjura felt a little soft. NBD I have bunches of shafts including a few uncut Bombtech Matrix shafts. Always liked that one.

@dave2512 Would you recommend the XCG6 over the XCG5... I found the Driver New for $100, I think the fairways were $80 and hybrids $70

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
