Should have clarified by stating top MALE golfer (a bunch of the top ladies play colored balls).

It would likely have to be a Cleveland endorsee .... but I would love to see Keegan or GMac rock a Z Star Tour Yellow.    Vijay played them for a short time, doubt we'll ever see it again unfortunately.   I know Titleist doesn't make a yellow Pro-V1, so that eliminates about 90% of the data set.

As a yellow ball guy, I just think it would be really cool to see a top rated player have the stones to buck the norm and go YELLOW.   Thoughts ??

IIRC, a couple of Champions Tour guys play yellow. Perhaps I was "under the weather" when I watched that though...

A quick Google search found an article re: Tim Clark considering a yellow ball back in 2010.

I like yellow. I play a DT Solo and will try the Callaway Chrome Soft soon. The color influences my ball choice as much as any other factor nowadays.

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir, and I never slice.

Trends come and go. You might see it again but colored balls never seem to have any lasting presence. Remember this http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/golf/pga/2005-02-07-black-golf-ball_x.htm

You have to admit though that yellow balls are a little more than a "trend".    I would venture a guess that 25% of the balls on the shelves at Golf Galaxy are of the yellow variety ...

My first guess would be "no" due to tradition for most pros. Contracts/endorsements with their ball provider would have a lot to do with what color they use. However, I know at least one golfer has used a yellow ball at the Las Vegas, PGA tour stop. I don't remember who he was, but it was a yellow ball. He was not one of the "top pros"  as I recall. At least in opinion he wasn't.

I use yellow balls most of the time for ease of locating, and identification purposes.

I remember reading some where that by adding coloring to mix, the softness of the cover is changed a little. I don't think this is the case, but I don't really know. If it does, perhaps that's a possible reason more pros don't use colored balls.

Does anyone remember that "black" ball that was a big deal years ago? I don't remember who manufactured it, but I remember  seeing it available on some shelves.

I say probably not because the reason to use a yellow ball at least for me, is to make it easier to see and find. Pro's don't seem to really have a problem losing their balls.

There was a stretch of years in the 70s where colored balls became quite popular, to the extent that for a while on the NYC public courses I was playing at the time they were way more common than white.  And then they just kind of died out.  And here they are again.  Personally I like the optic yellow ones.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I'm quite surprised no one has done it, especially with the Srixon ball. There has to be some seed money out there to win with one.  Personally Im not bothered by using a yellow ball, In fact I prefer to during certain times of the year.

History of the colored ball:

• In 1982 Wayne Levi was the first PGA pro to win a tournament using a colored (orange) ball in the Hawaiian Open.

• Jerry Pate, the 1976 US Open champion, played with an orange ball made by Wilson in the early 1980s and won the 1982 Players Championship using one.

I recall seeing a clip of Hale Irwin playing a yellow ball – perhaps in one of his U.S. Open wins?

I recently got a Sports Authority gift card in a company drawing and decided to burn it on golf balls. I damn near pulled the trigger on a dozen Volvik yellow ones, but went with Pro V1s instead.

As soon as Pro V1 comes out in yellow, a pro will play them on the tour. I play Volvik Vista Iv green. Love them. If I made the tour, I'd play them (unless Titleist shoveled a few grand my way).

I think you'll see it shortly.a yellow prov1

My memory is Tim Clark playing with yellow z-star a few years back in the PGA and almost winning one event
