If you want to become a golf pro at a golf course, you should get a job at one and learn as much as you can. If you want to play professional golf, you should pick up your grades and learn as much as you can, so you develop marketable skills, because your chances are very slim. You're behind your peers in terms of skill and probably experience. I know kids who, at your age, already committed to universities after being scouted and recruited, and they had no chance at pro golf.

i don't really wanna play collage golf after school i want to turn pro when i get out of school

Simple. You're handicap going by your profile is -8. You'll need to get it down to about +4 to start making a dent on the smaller golf tours, and you 2 years left of school.

Just reduce your handicap by 1 stroke per every 2 months and you'll be right where you need to be. Start practicing. If you -2 or better after the first you might have a slim chance but the second year is going to be even harder.

I'll round to the nearest significant digit: you have a 0.0000% chance.

On the bright side, you wouldn't be the first (or even the second) Tour pro on evolvr .

Play in a lot of amateur tournaments, get the handicap down to at least a +5, then start playing in mini tour events and/or go to Q-School.

Or you can do Monday qualifiers.

Not going to happen. Focus on your education.

A little late, don't you think? B-)

I think this thread was meant as a joke. If not, my first suggestion would be to discuss this with your parents first about not wanting an education.. Then again, the world needs ditch diggers , so as long as you like that kind of stuff, you won't need an education for that.. Unless they have raised the bar on who they hire to dig ditches and flip burgers (not that there is anything wrong with that kind of job, like I said the world wouldn't function without them)

Being an 8-handicapper you're almost there already. Just sharpen your short game and I'm sure you'll make it.

Reading Comprehension = Fail.

I didn't suggest you play college golf, I said this:

You're behind your peers in terms of skill and probably experience. I know kids who, at your age, already committed to universities after being scouted and recruited, and they had no chance at pro golf.

Which means other kids right now who are better than you (and those who were better than you at your age), who are going to play college golf, have zero shot at being pro. You have less chance than they do. You don't even have a real shot at college golf.

Good luck.

LOL, good one.

It is easy to turn pro.  You just say "I declare myself a professional golfer and renounce my amateur status."  There ya go, you're a pro.

And for someone who is in 10th grade and is an 8, your grades in school probably are not the thing that will prevent a golf scholarship. My daughter had very very good grades, was way better than the equivalent of an 8 in tennis, and was female, and never had a smell of a scholarship.

Go ahead and pursue your dream, but I think you need a really really strong fall back plan.  Maybe one that focuses on what you need to do, not just what you want to do.  Which might just include stepping up your game on the scholastics.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.
