I will be traveling to the Phoenix\Scottsdale area with friends the weekend of 2/20-2/23 for a weekend golf getaway. We plan on playing at TPC Scottsdale - Stadium and are willing to pay full rates, but it is always nice to find a deal if it is out there. So, other than the traditional booking sites(golfnow, teeoff, etc), does anyone know of any discounts available for TPC Scottsdale- Stadium Course?

Also, planning on playing Quintero and Boulders, any recommendations on must plays in the Phoenix\Scottsdale area?

Appreciate any help/advice!

You have listed 3 of my go to courses in Phoenix.

If you like Quintero, then you may want to consider Dinosaur Mountain course at Gold Canyon Resort. Do not play the Sidewinder course there but the Dinosaur Mountain course is fantastic. The resort is in the southeast corner of Phoenix so it is closer to Scottsdale than Quintero and it is about 1/3 less cost.

Also don't be fooled by the hokie entrance to the golf resort (think big white sign in shape of golf ball). The golf course is 180 degree the opposite of the golf resort decor. I almost made the mistake of turning around the first time I played there. We immediately played there again the next day.

It would be a good prank if the others in your group don't know this in advance.

As for discounts, I have found some success in talking to the pros at the courses directly. They may see a few days with less bookings and offer up some discounts. As you are play on a weekend in February is it highly unlikely that you will find any deals at TPC.

Another course on the eastside is We-Ko-Pa Golf Club.

There are two golf courses there. I have only played the Cholla course.

From what I understand the Cholla course is a desert target style course which I can confirm.

The Saguaro course is supposed to be more traditional and not a target style course.

I will second the recommendation on Wekopa Saguaro course.

Also check out Talking stick which has 2 courses. One is a resort stlye course and the other is kind of a links style course. Also located in the Fountain Hills area is Eagle Mountain.

I would also add Moon Valley Country Club to the list. It is private and they allow a few tee times per day. Great non-desert course where they used to hold the LPGA Standard Register Ping tournamnet. (Annika shot 59 here)

Have fun!

I may be out in Phoenix later this year, so I'll keep this thread in mind for ideas. I haven't played the course, but I plan on playing the ASU course. I think it may have been in the $40 range when I inquired as to it's price. Isn't that where Ping is located? I believe in quantity over quality. I'd rather play 2 rounds at $40 each rather than 1 round at $80. I stayed at the Legacy Resort several times on work travel. I walked their course, but never played. Looks nice. $85 prime time, $59 after noon. I think this was during the summer. Not sure since I stayed their several times during different seasons.

Driver.......Ping K15 9.5* stiff 3 wood.....Ping K15 16* stiff 5 wood.....Ping K15 19* stiff 4 Hybrid...Cleveland Gliderail 23* stiff 5 - PW......Pinhawk SL GW...........Tommy Armour 52* SW...........Tommy Armour 56* LW...........Tommy Armour 60* FW...........Diamond Tour 68* Putter.......Golfsmith Dyna Mite Ball..........Volvik Vista iV Green Bag..........Bennington Quiet Organizer Shoes.... ..Crocs

I have played the ASU course at least 1/2 dozen times.

It is a great course.

The proshop has lots of great ASU stuff.

Don't know how true this is but I have heard that ASU is planning on closing the course.

We are headed to Scottsdale the first week in March. I've never been there and really need some recommendations. We are average golfers on a budget (of course).

Thanks

I would vote for Talking Stick.

Another vote for Talking Stick. Played both courses in one day. Was a great course. Frankly, there really is no bad golf in the Scottsdale area. Scenery is nice everywhere. Courses kept in great condition, etc. We were set on a smaller budget so we did not play the TPC course and a few others that would have been tremendous but we played three courses and had a great time.
