Just saw this in my Twitter feed and it has me thinking...would you rent your clubs?

Seems like there are peer-to-peer online marketplaces popping up everywhere but not sure how well this one will be received.

Nope. I've seen what people do to golf clubs.

My clubs are nothing special.  I would rent them.

Only to someone I know though.

Would I rent my own gamers?  The answer is absolutely no. Even if I did, the rent would be too high to do anyone any good. $1000.00 a round might change my mind. I do keep an extra set handy that I let friends use when they visit, but that's about it.

The only way I would consider any thing like that is if I had 4 or 5 sets sitting around, doing nothing. Logistics would be a problem, which would also require a refundable, security deposit.

Extra cash is always a good thing, but I'm sure there a simpler ways to make it.

If I knew the person and knew they would treat them well, I would let them borrow them for free. I let my brother borrow my clubs once and he bent two shafts. Last time I did that. When I played with him later, he would throw clubs, kick his bag and once just stomped on his bag. That's probably how he bent mine. He's an idiot. Must be genetic. :-)

I'm not really emotionally attached to my clubs.  Except my new Ping G30 driver.  So in general, I would, except that one.

I answered No. I would let someone try them every once in a while. I would never loan them out or rent them out. They are MINE! :-D

Can you post the Tweet? Curious as to who's doing the Tweeting and if there's an accompanying article.

Unless there was a surefire way to make sure any damage was repaired (with extra compensation for the loss of use of your clubs), I wouldn't even rent my old irons and driver out. If those provisions were in place, I would rent out my clubs that I don't currently play with.

If it was someone I'm friends with, they can use my clubs. I probably know where to find them if something broke. :-D

Sorry, I linked to the article but it got taken down.  My bad.  Here is is the Tweet, hope it works.

@GimmeClubs launches a new #golf club lending marketplace http://t.co/oXFfEV0gdq

— Golficity (@Golficity) January 22, 2015

The service is by a new company that goes by the name "Gimme Clubs"

Thanks.

I'd rent out my old sets. I checked out the site and there's no selection as it's just starting out and there's no drop off/pick up service. If it had an incredible selection, drop/off and pick up is a big problem. I dunno, maybe rent out a storage place near the airport where owners can pickup/drop off?

The commercial posted to YT is a little - weird. That voiceover.

Not my "gamers" no way.

Probably not even my extras.  I just can't imagine getting enough to justify the hassel.

Let me think about this for a minute NO! People I know and that I know will take good care of my spares, yes, they can borrow them no charge. Otherwise a resounding no.

Sounds like uber for golf clubs. Unfortunately, the risk is way too high compared to the reward.

If there were some place I could drop off the sets I rarely use for pickup/drop off and I didn't have to do anything other than sort of like an owner renting out a house on AirBnB, accept payments and answer occasional questions and I got like ~$500/year doing it, I'd do it if I were certain that I would be recompensed for stolen or damaged clubs.

But there is no way I'm going to schedule being at home for pickup and drop off. That's a big no.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
