I heard Tiger talk about his in his interview yesterday. I have been completely oblivious to this up until a week ago when I was slow motion swinging and the "Ah hah!" moment came. I have been randomly hitting balls straight, but well right a decent percentage of the time. It is my "big miss" right now.

Do those of you who have a decent mastery of this game try to keep your "mind in your hands" during a swing? Are there any good drills? I have been hitting plastic balls off a mat towards a vertical target these past couple of days. Is that good practice or a waste of time?

I have been trying to develop a sense of where the club face is on impact. Is this second nature once it is mastered and you don't have to think about it?

I do not know if it's the same, but I do focus on what the club head is doing during the down swing, and through the impact zone. Since the hands do contribute quite a bit to what the club head is doing, I check my hands/grip every so often.

When my hands are not right, it's usually because I am allowing (bad grip) the club head to be too open at the top of my swing, and of course at impact. Not by much, but enough to send the ball off my intended line. Assuming my swing path is good, and my ball is in the correct spot in my stance, it's usually just an 1/8"+/- adjustment to get back where I need to be.

I've been working on consciously thinking of what my right hand is doing. I'm trying to create the proper lag and releasing my right hand at the proper time to get that "pop". I find when I push the ball straight right, It is because I'm not accentuating my follow through enough. My face is left a little open (I suppose) because I'm thinking too much about hitting at the ball and not through the ball. My left hand generally squares up pretty automatically. I do some drills with just a grip in my hand in my office. It feels pretty good and in sync. I need to consistently bring that to the course. Over swinging is a big culprit for me. The only club I tend to hit right is my driver. With my other clubs, my big miss is hitting it straight when I'm playing for a draw. That's not the worst thing in life I guess.
