I've got a malware pop up that won't let me open safari.  Anyone know how to remove it?  I have the new Yosemite OS.

I was able to get rid of it by shutting down and restarting Safari.  Then I deleted all history.

I got aggressive popups from dodgy streaming sites. Be careful with those. I was just trying them out, really. :-P

Yah, I've gotten a few of these recently, where you don't wanna close the prompt because you don't know what they've plugged into it. I use the Activity Monitor to kill the app instead. But then Safari can open up again to the same site, so you've gotta kill that tab quick.

I went ahead and set Safari to open a new window each time, but if I didn't, I have since read that you can hold the Shift key down when launching Safari, and it will not open the previous windows on Shutdown.

In my investigation, I didn't find any malware on my Mac, and I think it may have been a dodgy router that was randomly redirecting me.  I've not seen malware yet on my Mac. Cross fingers.

I have issues with Safari on my IPhone actually. I can't remain logged in and I can't write anything after an @mention either.

Wait, by dodgy - I meant like your FirstRowSports type of sites, that sort of thing.

OT, but since you're all Mac users:

I'll shamelessly plug that I'm looking for feedback with a Mac spreadsheet for strokes gained putting-->   http://thesandtrap.com/t/56566/strokes-gained-putting#post_1102208  (no malware in the spreadsheet, I swear! As far as I know anyway)

    • This is pretty much how I look at it.  I understand there are times when the piece of mind has value. I think over the long haul I'm money ahead by never buying the extended warrantee. Hell, What do I know? I went to Ch!cago PubIic SchooIs.

    • On my car I got the extended power train warranty. I do read the fine print most of the time. Though at now 37, my eyes aren’t what they were 10 years ago.    The problem with most of these extended warranties on electronics and appliances is you don’t register the warranty with the place you buy the warranty from, which I’ve always found strange. Unless it’s GameStop then you know Alina drops her Switch in the next two years and the screen cracks they’ll replace it. No questions asked.    You buy a slow cooker at Walmart for $50 and the extended warranty is say $6, you have to go through a third party to register your product for the warranty, and it’s pretty damn annoying. Target is the same way. Anything you buy the extended protection on you have to go through a third party.    Why do retailers go through a “broker” for warranties? Because they don’t wanna deal with it? They make me talk to someone from another country, that I can barely understand, when I need my warranty fulfilled.   Sorry for the rant.
