Guys I just bought a set of brand new MacGregor M657 irons off ebay. I did my research beforehand and know all I need to about them... however, having now recieved the clubs ( great e-bayer btw, clubs delivered almost exactly 24 hours after they were paid for ) as described ie:brand new still in the faactory wrap etc, I may have discovered a manufacturer fault in the clubs. Here it is. You know I'm sure that these clubs have a weird sort of milling on the face (described so well by Erik on TST reviews as a "rainbow like pattern") on my set however this milling is only defined clearly on about 2-3 out of the 8 clubs I bought.
Here then is the question, Is this normal? Is it a common fault with this model (Erik, I believe you mentioned a fault with the milling on the face of one of the clubs you tested? was the rest of the set O.K?)
If not do you think that I will be able to get replacements even though I didn't buy the clubs directly from the Manufacturer?

Hope you can help me out.

EDIT: Duh! typo in the title, It should of course read "MacGregor M 675 , not M657.

It really depends on whats around you, I've had friends walk into the big box golf stores with something they got on ebay and were able to return it through the manufacturer without a receipt or anything.
I almost picked up a set of these, they have them brand spanking new on rockbottomgolf.com for 299.99. Let us know how they when you hit them.

is it really worth the trouble? only reason i ask is because on a forged iron the face is so soft that after a very short time there will be wear in the middle of the clubface anyway. as long as the grooves are new, i find it hard to believe that the "rainbow" milling will affect performance in anyway. plus, you got a sweet deal, probably because they were manufacturer seconds, however as a rule, most manufacturer seconds are ONLY cosmetic defects that do not affect performance in any way.

i try not to presume too much, but many of the clubs i've personally bought on eBay have had some tiny cosmetic blemish or another, even though they were brand new. hope that helps a little, and might give you a different perspective. also, i contacted MacGregor recently about my NVG2 mids, and while they were very nice, they instructed me to return them through an authorized dealer, which i had no desire to do.

Yes, I thought that buying them off E-bay might have been a problem. Probaply will contact MacGregor some time soon to see what the craic is.
Yes btw, it was a sweet deal, 215GBP shipped.

    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
