Looking for a GREAT 52-53 degree wedge, to replace my cheater wedge!!! WHAT'S TO GET?

Hey guys, new here. Basically I have been using that cheater wedge the "rip stop" 52 degree's. I love this club with a pasion, its by far my favorite club in my bag, I hit dead on with it from 30 yard-100 yards out.

Believe it or not I don't even it, the way it should be to create crazy backspin, the problem with it, its eating my balls like crazy, totally destroying them, and I started to use pro-v1's so I am sure you can all understand why I want to get rid of it.

Also its illegal.

Here is my problem, I honestly feel I hit it so great because its light, the head of the club feels like a feather weight compared to many common wedges..

I would like something with great groves and some what light weight.
I kinda like the cg 12, but heard they are not all that great.

So what are some good options, for a 52 degree or 23 degree wedge? And whats the difference between high bounce and normal bounce?


And lastly I heard allot of people like to rust up the face on the club to add more spin to it, basically by dipping the head of the club in salt water and then letting it dry every day till it forms rust on it.. Crazy idea?

The only way you are going to find the wedge you like is to go and hit whats out there. As far as the feel of the club, you can take your current wedge to a PCS certified fitter, and they can tell you the swing weight of the club. They should also be able to build your new wedge to the same swing weight to give you a similar feel.

There are tons of great wedges on the market. TaylorMade RAC TP, Vokey SM, Callaway X-tour, Cleveland DSG's, Mizuno MP series and so on. I know you can pick up Cleveland CG10's on rockbottomgolf.com for like $70 right now.

As far as rusting your wedges, yeah you can do it, but why? I think you will be much better off if you just practice and learn to creat spin the conventional way, with your swing. Cleveland makes a 588 RTG that comes rusted and is meant to rust further, but I am not sure they offer it in the loft you are looking for.

i got my DSG RTG+s for like 50 bucks a piece...and yes, they make a 52 degree wedge. they are great wedges, but definitely not lightweight. personally i like a heavier weight on my wedges, because i *believe* it keeps me from skulling the ball on those touchy kind of shots.

I always had the thought that wedges should have a heavier feel/swing weight compared to the iron set but then again if you prefer lighter wedges then custom wedges like KGZ or Nakashima can do one for your... If not you can custom order from branded club makers like Titieist, Cleveland etc after finding out your current cheater's wedge specs... Most of the wedges in the market are really good these days so you can't really go wrong with too many of them...

Yes some people prefer rust but I personally didn't really feel the difference... Doing fine with chromed wedges so far.

Usual generalization is that higher bounce for diggers or for softer sand, lower bounce for sliders or for harder sand's or grounds to get the edge to go right under the ball... Try borrowing from you friends or demo them to feel the different variations.

Right now if you go to golfsmith.com they have callaway forged + vintage wedges and there is a 52 degree option available for $50. These are $100+ clubs. I use these wedges and love them. They are kinda heavy but a great value and they will rust. Good luck.

      Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.

      I would not do anything until I met with an instructor and got your swing looked at. There are some obvious better club options out there though. Spend 50 bucks on a lesson, practice and start piecing together a bag that works for you. Enjoy the journey.
