I just met someone from Glasgow who said it will either be beautiful or fierce as you say.  He said make sure I bring at least 2 pairs of golf shoes so they can dry out.  I play a lot of banjo and will be taking that with me, as well, for the pubs at night.  Can't wait.

You'll have a brilliant time, no matter what the weather.  I went to Scotland for golf in both 2011 and 2012.  If you're interested, I posted a rather lengthy trip report on Tripadvisor:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g1-i15987-k6162102-Trip_report_St_Andrews_and_Dornoch_way_too_long-Golf_Vacations.html

I talked about the golf course, the restaurants, and the pubs.  I do remember an Open Mic night at the Criterion, in Market Street, you might have fun there with your banjo.

I second the suggestion for 2 pairs of golf shoes, along with a good umbrella, waterproof jacket and pants, and a waterproof hat.

Feel free to message if you want to pick my brain about anything, I have great memories of Scotland.

the only thing wrong with this car is the nut behind the wheel.

Have a great trip.  My trip to Scotland was a dream come true.  Check out the "Observation Deck" on the 4th floor of the Old Course Hotel if weather permits.  Nice views, especially of players teeing off over the "railroad shed" on the Road Hole.
