After responding to the when did you break 100 thread, thought about my best and worst rounds ever.

Best Round
67

Bangor Municipal Golf Course - 37-30-67 (Par 71)  Double Bogey on One, 2-9 pars, back 9  (6 under), back-to back birdies on 10 and 11 and eagles on the two par 5's (15 & 18).

Worst round

114 on Hermon Meadows Golf Course in a High School Match (I had a pretty bad slice when I first started).  This was the only course, and still is to this day, that has several out-of-bounds on the inside of the golf course.  But only OB in one direction.

My best round ever so far was an 83 back around '08. I don't remember much else from the round besides the score. I don't think I made any birdies. My worst round would probably be the 120 I made the first time I ever played golf. It was pretty much what you'd expect from a complete novice with garage sale golf clubs. Spent most of the round driving the ball onto other holes (some things never change) and shanking pitches (glad I don't do that anymore). Highlight of the round was this par 3 that somehow I was the only one of my group to hit the green on. Stuck it to 3', made 5 :-D

Best round of my life, 67. Had 7 birdies and 2 bogeys. Worst round (probably because I actually kept score and played the ball by the rules) when I first started and bought my first set long long time ago, played in league and shot 63.. on 9 holes. I remember the feeling of both. Although I can hang around par, I have not shot 60's in years. I'm really just getting back into playing a lot and interested and improving.

79 was my best round.  It happened 3 years into my golf career.   Golf was easier then, mere 2 years ago.  Worst round?  I don't remember but I have been generating them often these days.  108 was the last bad round I remember.   (I once had 36 front 9 followed by 56 back 9 in the same round.  Crazy game, this golf is. )

I can't attest to my worst ever, since that probably occurred before I really knew what the game was about.  My best and worst of any significance were both more than 20 years ago, both in the 72 hole club championship.

August, 1989 - third round of the tournament.  16 handicap.  Shot 73 (still my PB).

August, 1991 - first round of the tournament.  10 handicap.  Shot 103 - 13 over on 2 holes alone (Par 5 6th and par 4 7th).  Played my way out of contention in 7 holes (in the third and fourth rounds I shot 74-78 - stupid game :loco: )

I only started REALLY playing 2 summers ago, so I'm sure I played worse than this but wasn't keeping score at all or cheating tremendously and still scoring too horrible too remember. Since committing to actually becoming a "golfer" in Summer 2013:

Best Round:

98 (48-50) at Pelham Bay Course in The Bronx 7/29/14 (I still have the ball!)

Worst Round:

122 at Maple Moor in Westchester, NY in April 2014...can't wait to go back there and kick this course's ass this year

Wow, what is the odd of shooting 73 as 16 handicap?    Do you remember what made this happen?   Were you feeling exceptionally confident that day?  Did you get a lot of lucky breaks?

My best round ever, gross score-wise, was a 1-under par 70 on an easy course from the white tees.

My "real" best ever round, satisfaction-wise, because it actually meant something, was in July of 2013 - a 76 to win my first ever tournament.

My worst ever - at least in comparison to my ability at the time - was a mere two or three weeks later in my next tournament.  I was on cloud nine after winning the previous tournament, I hit it better during warm ups than normal and was sure I was going to win again ... and then I shot a 101.  One hundred and one. Against a couple dozen guys of similar ability (8-12 handicaps) to finish dead flipping last by a handful of shots.

Talk about being brought down to earth.

According to USGA, odds off a 13-21 handicap shooting 10 below their handicap is 37,000 to 1

I don't really remember any details of the round.  I really don't think that I had any idea how well I was playing until it was over.  I knew that I was doing okay, but since we were required to trade cards and act as marker for a fellow competitor, I wasn't really  paying any attention to my score until we added it up at the end.  The one thing I had been doing since the middle of the season was stopping at a different course on the way to every tournament round and spending about 45 minutes on their chipping green.  That seemed to help me with my rhythm and tempo, as well as honing my greenside game.  My handicap had already dropped 2.5 points during the season, so I was in an improvement run when it happened.  The day after that in the final round of the tournament I shot 78 and made my first hole in one.

Yep, and the proof is that I have never duplicated that feat,  It's still my personal best and it was the first time I ever broke 80.  I never got my handicap index below 9.6.  I've shot a few 74's, and other rounds in the 70's, but never matched that 73.  I even stood on the 18th tee at one under par and made a triple for a 2 over 74, and I once made it through 11 holes at 3 under par, before playing the last 7 at bogey for a 76.  I've just never done it consistently enough to know when such a round is going to happen.

That's great, lol. I have a similar story.

Honestly, I don't remember my worst round, scoring wise. There were probably several rounds I played early in my golf career (before I followed the rules, took liberal drops, 5 foot gimmes, etc) where I wouldn't have broken 110 legitimately.

But relative to my abilities, my best (at the time) and worst rounds happened a mere two weeks apart. In September, I shot a 73 on the second day of a two day partner event, shattering my previous best by 3 strokes. 2 weeks later, my dad and I teed it up at the PGA West Stadium Course in La Quinta. It's a beast of a course, and with the rough grown extra high at the time, I shot an even 100. We were both so disgusted with our play, that we declined to use our free replay option and just packed it in and headed back to the hotel.

That's a 27 shot difference - 14 days apart from each other!

Best round : 68 (bogey free) a couple of years ago (before rotator cuff injury) Worst round: 111 (my first on a regulation par 72 course in 1976) only round over 100 (so far :-) ) A few years ago I was 4 under after 6 holes and my tee shot on a par 3 was ~10 feet for birdie when the heavens opened up and washed the round away. I would probably have choked anyway.)

Does that count all of those rounds played under the "creative" rules of golf that you espouse on another thread?  How about that "68"?  Just wondering.

For best, I've shot 2-under twice.  The first wasa 69 for a casual round at Talamore in Pinehurst, from the Blue tees.  Even on casual rounds I play by the rules, other than a few gimmes.  The second time was in the first round of our Senior Club Championship here at Stoneleigh GC in Round Hill, VA.  For this it was completely by the rules, putting everything into the hole.  For the second day of the 36-hole stroke play event I shot 76 to tie for the first, eventually losing on third playoff hole to a guy who I know is a better player.  I was really proud of the way I played, especially during tournament pressure.

As for my worst rounds, I do my best to forget those, so I don't have any tales of woe.  I did shoot around 90 at Carnoustie's Championship Course a few years ago, in completely miserable weather.  Even if I could play ther ein nice weather, that's probably the toughest course I've ever played.

I really can't recall the worst scoring round.  As some have said, early in my golfing life I undoubtedly put up some number in excess of 110 and even that number was likely aided by a loose application of the Rules of Golf.

My best differential as well as raw score was in 2007 during the Hudson Mills Championship.  The differential was 0.2 as I shot a one under 70.  Not a particularly difficult course.  My only under par round to date.
