I've been playing golf for about 3 years, seriously for the last two, and made my high school golf team after only a year of serious play. I have seen my scores improve tremendously, but know that I can continue to improve  My current handicap index or average score is 7.2. However, I ended last year terribly, with two 90+ scores in my final two rounds. Hoping this was an aberration rather than a trend My typical ball flight is a high draw. I have without meaning to done most of the S&T; fundamentals for the majority of my life The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is the big push slice when my plane gets inconsistent or I get frustrated after a bad shot.

Finally here is a video. Currently it's terrible, I'm slicing approximately 40 yds, and I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing. Any tips?

It is tough to tell from that angle. The camera is a little high.  But your ball is starting left and curving right.  This may indicate that you are swinging out to in.  Below is a screen shot of you at A5.5, between left arm parallel to ground and shaft parallel to ground.  I couldn't get you at A6 because of the film speed.  Charlie Hoffman is on the right.

If your camera was at hand height, we could see a bit better. But it looks like your club head would be to the right of your hands at A6 versus inside your hands like Charlie is.

If you could send another video with the camera a bit lower, and a face one view, that would help.  It could be something as simple as getting your weight more forward during the downswing.

@boogielicious addition to possibly getting my weight more forward if I can, though from my instructor it appears I get it far enough forward, would this slightly altered downswing path likely do the trick in terms of changing swing path

I would defer to @mvmac or another instructor. Your shaft is already pretty flat at A5. If you draw a line down the shaft you will see it is pointing past the ball.

I'd look at cleaning up how the club travels on the backswing, shaft is loading too shallow.

Can see how how your shaft is pointing well outside the ball, from there it's all about trying to recover from this position. If you can start going more "steep to shallow" you'll see a huge difference with your ballstriking.

I'd start off with something simple like hitting shots with a tee under your arm. You left arm works away from you on the takeaway and that encourages the forearm to rotate at a faster rate, causing the club head to roll in. Also check out these videos.

Here's my pre-winter video so that I have a base to work off of in the spring.  Was hitting the ball really well here in the freezing temps.

That's a pretty thorough video. You're still loading the club very shallow as @mvmac had pointed out earlier. The hands moving towards the ball on the takeaway is big factor in this. You'll want to keep the hands the same distance from the thigh and the upper part of the left arm staying close to the chest. I struggled with this issue for some time but getting the backswing on plane was huge for my consistency.

I think we need to consider the question of treatment vs cure....or if either is even needed based on his ball striking consistency.Let's keep in mind,if it repeats,it's correct.

Even higher handicappers have repeating swings.

I see, but ball striking can always be improved and improving the swing will do that. Not sure what you're getting at then.

He's posting his swing in order to get some advice. It's going to be very tough to consistently hit it solid when the sweetspot is doing what it's doing.

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.

    • I would not do anything until I met with an instructor and got your swing looked at. There are some obvious better club options out there though. Spend 50 bucks on a lesson, practice and start piecing together a bag that works for you. Enjoy the journey.
