Brrrrrrr! Autumns here, winter is just around the corner. Sound off about your plans for the coming months.

I’ll start. Where I live we play year round, so nothing to drastic happens to my game. The ground does get hard and the shorts get replaced by windbreakers and long pants but with the alterative being taking 5 months off, I’m not complaining.

I am, this winter, not going to be playing as much competitive golf so I am going to work on a few minor swing changes. With the driver, especially, I need to work on staying on plane. I have a horrible tendency to cross the line at the top and deliver the face shut at the bottom of the swing. This flaw has begun to show up when hitting irons as well so something has to be done and now is the time. I hope to emerge in the spring having successfully taken the left side of the golf course out of play.

Well, I can go second. We're already in windbreakers and long pants with about 3 weeks of playing left! :( I get sooo depressed at this time of the year for 2 reasons. One is I can't play again until late March and the second is I know my swing will have regressed in some way shape or form. Hockey is fun, but not as much as golf.

-I want to work on putting. I have been lagging everything including 10 footers and coming up short of the hole almost all the time. I need to start putting it past the hole and stop lagging short putts.
-Second thing is to hit the indoor :( range once a week so I remember what a club feels like next spring.

NM Golf I'm so jealous of your ability to play year round!

Swing = Stacked and On Plane when possible.

It doesn't get nearly as cold here in Kentucky as it used to. Good ol' Al Gore to thank for that. Assuming this coming winter isn't too bad, it will probably mean 50 degree days. I'll just bust out the windbreaker and an extra glove so I don't get too cold [I prefer cold weather over hot anyday, and sometimes I will be wearing shorts when it's 50 degrees]. Since the place will probably be under winter rules anyway, I'll just be working on my swing, making good shots and sinking putts rather than actually trying to lower my score. After hacking it up pretty badly the last month or so I've given up on trying to get below a 10 before the year's out. Maybe 2008 will be my breakout year.

They Suck! They are only popular out of necessity. The one in our city is only 120 yards long so you better know what a good shot feels like on the face because the ballflight is so short you can't get a good read on it.

The indoor range by us us the same way, I hit pitching wedge into the ceililng so its kind of just to keep your swing somewhat in tact.

Winter here in Cleveland, well it can snow tomorrow or we can be playing in 50 degrees in December. Normally we get a week or two in November probably in 35-45 degree weather before we call it a year. We usually just play scrammbles on Sunday's until we cant play anymore.

The golf dome in Calgary isn't too bad. Wedges don't hit the ceiling, drives go far enough, but it's way too expensive!!

Luckily there is no winter in South Florida. Ok, maybe three days of winter. The big freeze is the spike in green fees during the season. That's when I hit the local munis.

Trouble in the UK with the clocks going back its normally too dark to play 4:30pm.

So its either early start in the morning for 9 holes before work. Or, early weekend days!

Here in Wales, its wet alot. So 90% of winter will be played wearing wet/wind suit :) and temps around 0°C-8°C / 32F-50F

We're heading to the "busy season" here in Florida since we can golf all year round. However, I used to live in Denver and we golfed all year round there too. The only time the courses were closed was when there was snow on them. I loved swinging with that wind chill. Add an iced cold beer and we were set.

If the temp is above 45 and the ground is clear of snow, I will still be playing. I've had years where I could play all winter long, and then there are years like last winter where our golf ended right after Thanksgiving and the course wasn't open again until the last day of February. We had a snowstorm every weekend for 5 weeks, and the snow didn't melt off the course until the first of March.

How exactly did Al Gore make Kentucky warmer???? The same way he "invented" the internet?

Your course publishes a set of "winter rules"?? I never heard of that. I know guys who play what they call winter rules, which is just what the rule book calls "preferred lies". I don't even subscribe to that... I play the ball down all year long unless I have a lie where relief is covered under the rules. After the end of October, we can no longer submit scores for handicap, but I still play as if I was doing so. I admit that I am at least slightly more liberal in giving myself relief from abnormal conditions, but only from truly horrid lies that are clearly caused by what would be GUR in the summer. I use winter golf to help practice my game adjustment and course management skills. With winter golf, the conditions can change from day to day (even from hour to hour as the day warms up), so it requires constant little adjustments for approach shots, chipping and putting. I will also often start out wearing enough clothes that my swing is more than somewhat restricted, but as the sun warms the air, the clothes start to come off, so even my swing can change during the course of the round. The most difficult thing in winter golf is the short period you get for playing when it's warm enough to start, but there is still enough daylight to finish 18 holes. There is generally only about a 3 hour window at best during midwinter. I also play more 9 hole rounds, and I play the Executive 9 (par 31) or the par 3 course at my home facility more often in winter, as both cost less and play faster than the Championship course. I can go twice around (making 18 holes for under $20) the Executive course in about 3 hours, walking, and it is less heavily used because more part time golfers play it in the summer, and they don't play winter golf.

My course is open year round as long as there is no snow on the ground. Last year I played 30 times in Jan/Feb. This past year I was only able to play once due to snow. I'll play as long as it is above 25 degrees. Not many do so I sometimes get the course to myself. The pro shakes his head when he sees me coming to play when it is below freezing.

Loyalty above all else, except honor.

We are already dealing with the cold and trying to find balls underneath all the fallen leaves.

Any recommendation on good cold weather ball?

I have a long-sleeve polo, and I own long pants, and it pretty much does not snow here, so golf it is.
