Golf in Colorado was up last year, according to an article in my current CGA newsletter.  This the first year since 2006 that the game showed signs of reversing the decline, and even rebounding a little.  18 hole play was up 3.6% and 18 hole revenue was up 1.9% from 2013.  From 1980 to 2009, not a year passed without at least one new course opening in Colorado.  Since 2009, something more than a handful of courses have closed, with fewer new courses opening.  A Colorado Golf Association spokesman stated that the signs are positive that the the decline seems to have at least leveled out here.

Only one comment was offered on the national trend:

Quote:
According to PGA of America's PerformanceTrak data, when accounting for weather, a total of 29 states in the country showed growth in rounds played per day open in 2014.

Slightly more than half the country shows some positive signs of improvement.  I'd call this good news for golf.  It certainly doesn't qualify as a trend yet, but it shows some cause for optimism.

Did the newsletter mention having the many wonderful Ski Resorts, a tribute to summer "golf destinations" as a factor for the number of rounds?

Many of the areas now have multiple courses and offer outstanding course considerations to play.

Summer months were becoming very busy with tourism in the high country when I lived in Summit County.

Not really, because the comparison was to the previous years in the state.  Those resorts have been there all along.  Play and revenue had been down everywhere.

Thanks Rick, read the article and caught up on news of a few old golf buddies looking for the article.

Also learned that Mark Hubbard who was a Monday Qualifier this week at the Honda, is from Colorado.

I'm not surprised. The courses I play have been pretty busy this past year.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
