How many hours on average do you spend doing something involving golf? Personally I will spend approximately an hour or two after work hitting plastic wiffle balls and chipping around the back yard. After that I will usually turn on the golf channel and watch whatever is playing, if it's something I'm not really into I will leave it on and practice my putting. My wife tells me I'm not normal haha. Just wanted to see if there was any else with the same obsession I've got.

On average, probably  10 hours a month just hitting balls. My golf rounds last 4-5 hours, and sometimes I might play 2, or 3 rounds a week. So, 6 rounds a month, plus the 10 hours hitting balls, I suppose I am looking at a maximum 40 hours a month, +/-  playing/practicing. Depends on the weather. I don't watch that much golf on TV for it to even matter  Might as well add in another 30 hours a month reading, and posting on this web site. So 70 +/- hours a month????

A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

Just practice? I'd say in the winter on average an hour every night. As the weather improves and I get more opportunities, probably two or three times that. Unfortunately, it's not always practice with a purpose.

And while you're not alone in your obsession, our spouses are right... we're crazy.

I was laughing about this one day while talking to my brother (whose not a golfer) and he put it in a pretty good perspective by saying "At least you have something in your life that you really enjoy. There are worse things you could be doing with your time."

My wife laughs at me for putting around the house while she reads. Golf is by far the most addicting hobby I've ever had. The more I play or practice the more I want to.

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.

    • I would not do anything until I met with an instructor and got your swing looked at. There are some obvious better club options out there though. Spend 50 bucks on a lesson, practice and start piecing together a bag that works for you. Enjoy the journey.
