I never knew Babe Ruth was such an avid golfer.

I knew he golfed, I just never realized he was that big of an influence. It was an interesting read.

He never would have made it if he played for George Steinbrenner ;-)

I wonder if he would've like Lowest Score Wins

From a book I have called Links Lore “

Famed on the diamond for swinging a longer, heavier bat than other players, Ruth applied the same “bigger is better” approach on the links. He blasted golf balls with a custom-made oversize driver, his forty-five-inch-long, sixteen-ounce “Bludgeon” “

I wonder if he would've like Lowest Score Wins

He likely wouldn't listen

“At Bermuda's Mid-Ocean Club, he peered down the fifth, a 430 yard tract calling calling for a drive across a lake. A dogleg left teased the golfer to cut off large stretches of the lake. The more he cut off, the shorter his approach. Ruth believed that he could drive the entire lake. In a scene reminiscent of Kevin Costner's disastrous effort to clear the water hazard in the film Tin cup, Ruth splashed eleven balls into the lake.”

Great read. He's been a hero of mine since I was a young boy and he was long dead. I knew he golfed but had no idea how much golf meant to him nor the impact he had on the game. Towel under the arm...amazing. Thanks for posting!
