I will be completing 30yrs of Naval service this summer and I am heading back to Florida to retire (originally from Daytona Beach). My Brother is flying in from Florida and we're going to head east via Interstate 10 pretty much the whole way. Was looking for some suggestions for some great golf courses along the way and looking to spend around $60-$80 a round but will spend more if the review says it is actually worth it. Not looking to stray too far from the freeway but, that being said, it doesn't have to be right off the freeway either. Hopefully the viewership has some good suggestions and some favorites or "must plays" along the way. Thank you in advance for your insights...it is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum @navysurfr .  I'm from Boston, so I can't help, but I've added a map below.  Sand Trap members should be able to give you an idea of good courses on this route.

I can't help with the courses, but have you ever driven I-10 the whole way? It may be the most miserable drive on earth. :~( Stop now. Fly, and use the time saved to play golf in San Diego and Jacksonville, both of which are world class golf destinations by themselves! :-)

David, Actually I have driven it before and if I could just be transported across Texas I would be fine. It seems like you drive through that state for eight days. I agree, both San Diego and Florida are great golf destinations and I have been fortunate to spend most of my career in San Diego. Heading to Florida where my retirement dollar will go a little further. Hopefully, I'll get some good input and believe me, if I could fly I would but I have to get my car back to Florida somehow! Thanks for taking the time to respond! r/ Jeff

Yeah, I swear you can see Houston from El Paso! BTW, it's not really that much more to ship your car than the total cost of driving it, when you factor in meals, hotels, etc... Just another option from someone who's been there, shipmate.

I've made the drive and played many courses along the way. Started in San Diego up to Lake Elsinore. Then on to Palm Springs - Dessert Willow, many courses in Phoenix - The Wigwam, Sedona CC, Santa Fe - Pinion Hills, Texas - Fort Bragg (on base), San Antonio- The River Crossing (you could spend a week just in Texas, many great courses) skipped Louisiana, played in Mississippi & Bama - RTJ courses, then from Destin Fl. along the Gulf to Fort Meyers. It was about a two week travel visiting friends and my brother.

I went the northern route out of Phoenix and then back south across Texas.

only courses i played were in San Antonio at the bases, but that was 30 years ago.  From what I remember, Lackland and Randolph had decent courses.
