I've been Playing Golf for: About 4-5 years. Although I have been playing for a while, I would only participate in one or two camps and play maybe a round or two of golf in a whole season. Now, I have found a passion for golf and am playing 2 - 3 hours a day with a couple rounds a week.

My current handicap index or average score is: AVG. Score: 110

My typical ball flight is: I can hit the ball straight when I make sure to "turn my wrists" and use a new grip I am learning. Other times I would slice the ball but recently I have drawn/hooked the ball numerous times on the course. I'm not sure why I am drawing the ball as it is very new thing to me. I can't help but think there's something better I could be doing with my swing rather than having to mentally think about turning my wrists each time I each, I consequently if I don't then I slice the ball. This seems quite counter-intuitive to what I've read, as many say you shouldn't be thinking at all during your swing.

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Pretty much anything that isn't straight, I'd like to work on other shots later on, first I want to be able to hit the ball straight consistently. Let me know if I need to be more specific.

Just post a video when you can.  This thread will be a running blog of your work to improve.  There is a lot to learn in golf, even for people who have been playing for many years.  Many wander around reading golf magazines for the latest, "tips" and never really change their swing.  Golf magazines and sites tend to dump a lot of tips on readers, many contradicting, because they need to sell.  I avoid the tips mostly.

To really understand the golf swing, check out the thread below.  5 Simple Keys is not a swing method.  It is a set of things that are common to all good golf swings. It is simplified and really helps you improve faster.

The site owners, @iacas and @mvmac also posted a bunch of great videos with drills for each key.

The folks on this site, who have improved the fastest in my opinion, have practiced in a very specific way.  That method is in the thread below.

After posting a video, the part of your swing that needs correction can be identified by the instructors and other forum members.  Someone like me, who is a mid handicap, may be working on a similar thing.  They will refer to it as your priority piece.  You then will work to "change the picture" meaning correct the issue in a permanent way.

You have to have patience.  Changing the picture can take time in some parts of your swing.  Practicing smart helps.

Lastly, to improve, you have to play more.  Practicing can be fun, but you need to take your work out on the course to see all the situations you will encounter in golf.

Have fun!

I think the length of time it takes for you to post a video on here will be a good indicator of your commitment level. Makes sure to read up on how to position your camera as swing analysis is very dependant on proper camera angles. There are several threads on how to film your swing properly. I'm on my phone so I can't link any but maybe someone else will.

Hint for video - if you have a smartphone, capture your swing using slow motion. This will use the higher shutter speed of the camera of around 120 fps which is quite adequate. You can upload this to your PC and edit with MS Movie Maker (free download). And if possible use a tripod. Tripods are cheap, and there are attachments so you can use them with your phone. A steady camera is important, too. Mike (mvmac) will probably look at your video and draw some lines and stuff on it. Possibly compare it to a pro's. Then give you some things to work on.
