Snake Eyes SL4 Wedges?

So I needed to get a matching set of wedges to help me become a better short game player. I had currently owned an old Mac Burrows 52 degree wedge and a Tommy Armour 60 degree wedge. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on real good wedges, till I develop more short game skills. I also had a gift card to buy a push cart, with a bit extra remaining on it to spend. On Golf Town website, last week they had an anniversary sale, that allowed me to get a clic gear 3.5+ cart, and a 52/56/60 degree set of Snake Eyes SL4 Wedges for just under $300. I ordered them up and am just waiting for the package to arrive. Last fall I remember seeing the wedges for $50 each, and they were on sale for $29. With the anniversary sale I was able to get them for $25 each. I've been trying to find any info on these wedges all week, and cannot find anything. I was wondering if anyone has experience with these wedges, and what they thought of them. I also wanted to know, if these wedges were able to be altered at a golf shop. If at all possible I was wanting to have the 52 bent down to 50 degrees and the 56 to 55 degrees. That will keep my gaps a bit more even I figure; in terms with my irons (my PW is 45 degrees I believe). I don't know anything about wedge technology, so this is really the first set of wedges for me, to learn off of. Thanks a lot.

Snake Eyes is Golfsmith's store brand, much like Tommy Armour and Ram are Sports Authority's. They're fine. They're also almost always on sale, it seems like. I have Tommy Armour 845 wedges myself, which are fairly comparable. What's the bounce on your wedges? If you're bending them, the bounce change is probably going the be the biggest issue. I'd leave the wedges alone, honestly, for two reasons: 1) Bending wedges down will reduce bounce and if there isn't a ton to spare, as a high handicapper, you're probably not doing yourself any favors. 2) 45 / 52 / 56 isn't unusual. That's exactly what I have and they gap perfectly for me at 127 / 115 / 105 yards. Distances aren't linear with loft angles at higher lofts. I'd leave them alone until you know your distances on the wedges first and then decide. I think you'll find it a fine combination. Cheaper wedges like these also may be tougher to bend, potentially, because the metal may be more brittle. I'd really leave it alone and not bend them unless there was a massive gap.

I actually don't know the bounce on them. It wasn't mentioned in any of the information on them. I will play them on the simulator and see how they measure up compared to the rest of my clubs. I guess I really only want them to hold up well enough till I can justify a really good set, then these will go into my old RAM set that has no wedges, for when a friend without clubs wants to play. I had the chance before Christmas to buy a single season used set of ATV wedges (50/55/60) for $150, but passed. Now I wish I had taken the deal. Lol

Hey, I'm with you. My set needed a gap and lob wedge, and I got my Tommy Armours from Sports Authority on Black Friday a few years ago. They each listed at $99, but sold every day for $50. Then the sale was 2 for $50. I had a rewards certificate from a brother using my account buying his box set, so I had $35 to play with. Then they gave everyone a $10 gift card for coming at midnight, so I got two wedges for about $6, haha. They're definitely nice to learn on, but you can tell the grooves go away quick. I have a Nike sand wedge I bought used that's from 2008 and it still shreds balls despite being abused in the sand.

Before you do any bending, find the distance gaps between the 45ª PW, and the SL 52ª and 56ª.

If the SLs have hotter faces than the PW from your iron set, then the 7ª loft gap may not play out that much in distance. Also, if the PW and the SL 52ª have the same shaft length, this would cut down the yardage gap distance.

UPS delivered! I went and spent a couple hours on the simulators today. Probably around 45 minutes just playing with the wedges, before I moved on to the rest of my clubs for about 15 minutes; then I played the best scoring simulator round I've played by myself (87 at Banff Springs). I really like the grooves on these wedges, compared to what I have used in the past. I was consistently within 2 yards or less coming from 30 yards and in. Pulling of high 25 yard flop shots that stopped on a dime, was really easy (probably my favorite shot aside from long drives). I was consistently 70-76 yards with the 60*, 80-94 with the 56*, and 90-106 with the 52* with full swing shots. I am not that great yet with chipping, but I could put the ball within 3 yards from 24 and 30 yard chipping practice, with either of the wedges. My Pitching wedge seemed all over the place today, one time it was 115 the next it was 130, then down to 124 yards. I think these will change again once shooting from real grass again though. The weather is really warming up these past few days, and the snow is going away fast, hopefully the driving ranges start opening in the next few weeks, and if we are lucky the courses by the end of April. Really itching to get out there and play.

My PW is my 127 yard club, but I can hit it over 150 if I try to. Figure out what your stock swing is with the PW when you're trying to get it to go high and stop. A PW is really really easy to deloft and hit 30 yards longer. My guess based on your other distances is that it'll come in at around 115.

My gapping for reference is

PW: 127

52: 115

56: 105

60: 85 (but I never hit it full except at the driving range; that yardage is a nice 3/4 52° wedge)
