Today I was practicing on the range at my local course.  I was working on short wedges shots, which I tend to mishit.  I took one shot and it shanked off the hosel and it went flying right.  I never really saw the ball but knew it wasnt good.  As I looked over to the right I saw a women get hit square in the head.  I knew it was my shot. She went straight down to the ground...

I went over to see her and she was covered in blood but was sitting up and talking.  She kept saying she was ok and to not worry about it.  Her friend was with her, luckily, and they put a bandage around her head and drove off to the hospital.  I asked if there was anything I could do and they said no but i still feel awful about it.

Has anybody else had any other experiences like this?

Yes. I was playing in a pro-am with my (at the time) future father in law at Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth. I bladed a 4 iron and hit my father in law's caddy right in the side of his calf. This guy was old too, the patriarch of the caddies as I always say. He had been a caddy at Colonial for like 40 years. . I was trying to hit it over him (long story as to why he was positioned where he was), but hit a rope right at him. It broke the skin, he was bleeding, they had to call over the medics. Worst part is this was on the third hole, so I had that hanging over me for the rest of the round. The guy was a trooper though, finished the round with a towel wrapped around his leg. So, I kind of know the feeling.

I haven't hit anyone but a buddy of mine got hit when we were playing a round.  Idiots behind us teed off when we were halfway up the fairway on a par 4.  The guy yelled fore about a quarter of a second before impact as usual.  Anyway, it hit my buddy in the ribcage about where your elbow would touch when your arms are at rest.  He dropped down to one knee and was bitching for a while but eventually shook it off and we finished the round.

I got hit in the back at a driving range by a kid 2 stalls over to my right.  Good thing I'm a lefty or it might have hit me in the face.  It just left a bruise and stopped hurting after a few minutes.

How did this idiot manage to hit a ball directly behind him?

I have no idea since my back was facing him.  The kids like to do Happy Gilmore swings and end up hitting balls all over the place.  It's a horribly managed range but it's close to the house.  I once saw a kid turn around and hit a shot right at his mother who was sitting on a bench texting on her phone.  He hit her in the face and there was blood all over, range was closed until she left in an ambulance.

The worst was my when my wife was hit in the head on Memorial Day with a tee shot a number of years ago. Our group was in an adjacent fairway, and the guy hit a big slice. We spent the afternoon in the hospital, but she was okay. I felt as bad for the guy, who was very upset, and gave us his phone number. I called him that night to let him know everything was okay.

The other one that was memorable for me was when I caddied in a pro am in the 1990's and my amateur golfer sprayed one into the gallery on a par 3, and hit a spectator square on the head. Fuzzy Zoeller was our pro, and he couldn't have been any nicer. He showed real concern at the tee, and then went to the guy, signed a golf ball and a golf glove and gave them to him. That round was also memorable, in that, a spectator a few holes earlier had a heart attack and had to be taken off of the course by paramedics.

I've never hit anybody that I know of...............   I've been yelled at a couple of times for hitting into people that were in an area that was blind to my sightline, but I was never told I hit anyone.

I've been hit twice!!  I was hit in the back of the head with a 1 hopper from long range right behind the ear.  It hit just hard enough that I took a step forward, but it must have hit a good spot because it didn't hurt in spite of a lump.    I also was hit on the shin bone........that one hurt like hell.

There were plenty of times I wanted to hit other golfers.   Oh, pardon me.  Did you mean hit them with a golf ball like with an errant shot?   No, I never did.   My wife hit me once and I dropped to my knee.  I still have doubts about whether it was intentional or not (we've been married over two decades).

If you are reading this post and fall into this category of the golfers:  If your name is not Rory M, or Tiger W, please wait until golfers get out of the green area before you fire.   I see this too often and no amount of "fore" makes it right.   You are not that good to put every shot on green, brother.   Rant over.

I'm reading this thread to find out which one of you hit me!

Years ago, caddying in the City Championship, we are waiting for the club pro to come out for a ruling on the 13th green.

As we are standing there, I get blasted in the ankle by some errant shot - so I'm using this as a bookmark to see who posts a story that matches up.

The rest of the story is that my guy won the match, and I got a pretty decent tip for the loop that day.

I hit a drive down the right side of the 1st tee at my local muni.  No one was on the fairway when it hit.  After I hit, I saw guy from the next fairway over come running out from between the tees to get to his ball.  I watched as the guy and the ball converged.  It took one bounce and hit the guy in the thigh.  I walked up to him and apologized, but he said that it was completely his fault.

I’ve never hit anyone but this was kind of funny. There was a group of foreign guys playing in front of us. We didn’t know they were foreign at first….keep reading. One of my buddies (our group’s long hitter) went for a par-5 in two, we were back about 265 but he nailed it and he yelled fore right after he made contact. The entire group ahead of us, just walking of the green heard FORE and reacted like it was air raid. They threw all of their clubs in the air and hit the deck covering up their heads. It bounced on the front fringe and then nailed one of the guys on the fatty part of this right thigh – nothing serious. These guys stayed near the green as we approached. We sensed trouble. When we got to the green, all of them came running over yelling at us. We were apologizing and trying to deflate the situation. During the argument the guy who was hit in the thigh took two golf balls ball from his pocket and threw at my buddy. Hitting him once on the arm and once on the chest. Of course, we were seconds away from brawl when a third group came over from another hole and helped to break it up. The funny part was how this ended. The foreign guy looking at my buddy who was hit said in a very thick accent, “watch where you hit the shot, friend.” My buddy replies, “no friend of mine.” The foreign guy yells back as he’s walking away, “VICE VERSA to you.” So, needless to say, we use the term “VICE VERSA to you” a lot whenever we play together.

Never hit anyone, and never got hit by anyone.  Knock on wood.

I almost got hit a couple of times by douche bags.  We were on a green putting on par 3, when a ball flies right in front of me.  Looked back and a couple of douche bags apologized for hitting into us.  Told him the next ones coming right back at him and they kept their distance for the rest of the round.

Things like this makes you wonder whether Darwin was right after all.  These idiots could not have survived in the wild.  Their gene pool should have been extinguished by now.

Not so believable.   Come on, fess up.  What was your group doing prior to the incident for the front group to react as they did?    Maybe, your buddies were consistently hitting into them?

I got hit in the ankle at a clinic once, when I was eight or nine. Hurt like hell.

I almost drilled a friend of mine two saturdays ago on the first tee. It was cart path only on that hole, and he had already hit his ball and was at his cart, so I decided it'd be okay to hit. For reasons I still can't figure out, he started back down the hill, and the ball missed him by a few feet. He was not happy after the round, understandably.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
