The internet of things is just starting to arrive. Bluetooth or Radio frequency tags tracking your clubhead speed onto your phone, clubhouse connectivity to your cart, and how about the day when you dont keep your own score? That's gonna hurt some feelings. How about a golf cart sensor that can tell if your ball does more than "oscillate" between shots, and sets off an alarm?

I'm all for technology helping to improve my game.  I'm honest to a fault when I play.  I don't get to play often, so when I DO get to play, I always attempt to gauge myself against my past history.

I have stats from every round I've played since 2004 either in Scorecard 2, on an Excel/Google spreadsheet or both.

The implementation of things like Game Golf has been helpful to me and my game.  If it was all tracked without the need for tags, etc... that'd be great.

I'd LOVE something more statistical than pacing off putts.

I work for Samsung, so... technology is something I fully embrace.  I say bring it on!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

as long as the technology doesn't slow down the game, I'm all in!

My experience though is on course technology is slowing down the time in between shots for a lot rec players, who think they're saving time, but between picking up the phone, swiping and pinching and entering- only to return it to the bag pocket, cart etc...  it is slowing down the game for some. I have not mentioned talking and texting on the phone, but the use of technology golf apps for distances to the pin , how long their last shot was, entering scores ,looking at fly overs, or lazering each shot. I think some of the technology actually distracts a player away from the game- perhaps relying too much on technology at times. i.e. So your Iphone tells you that you are 109 yards from the center of the green, according to the pin sheet its +3 yards from center, making it 112, with an up hill shot makes the shot 116 yards, the golfer then hits his ball 102 yards on the front fringe of the green and 2 or 3 putts. So much for technology, you should just hit your 120 yards club and hoped for the best.

Some folks use it effectively, these are the same guys that play ready golf very well, know where to park the cart or put their bag down or to take 2-3 clubs with them. Other guys should invest in making a better swing or concentrate on good ball striking rather than technology.

Me, I use a garmin watch and all my god given senses to make a judgement on how far the next shot is needed for the front, middle and back portion of the green to score effectively.

I know a few guys that would quit after that round, complain about it and find excuses and just blame everything else but the fact that they played preferred lies. And some people just don't get how to move through their phone apps with any real speed. I play and track everything, you'd never know because I'm very familiar with that system and I move thorough it quickly.
