Players and Instructors alike, can see all sorts of flaws in someone's swing. So for conservation sake, just list your top 2 candidates. May be very interesting to see just which one's draw the most attention.

1: Moving backwards off the ball in the BS (key 1)

2: Poor or reverse weight shift (key 2)

Screwing up 1 makes 2 very difficult and you can forget about any semblance of consistent contact. And if you don't have consistent contact you can forget about everything else, 'cause it ain't happening.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

From personal experience! 1. Any type of sway and/or head lifting during the backswing. 2. Open clubface at top of the backswing due to cupped left wrist or rolling during takeaway.

Keys one and two....If you can get your head pretty steady, and get weight forward then you can probably find a way to strike the ball, even if you have other compensations you can probably get the clubhead to the ball with some consistency.

Why not? I'm pretty sure it can lead to an OTT move which is really hard to change.

well, if youre getting your weight forward properly, its tough to go OTT regardless of the cupping of the left wrist.

Bad mental game and clubs that aren't custom fit :-P

For real this time. Two things I commonly see with "average" golfers that I don't see with better players.

- Grip in the palm of the lead hand.

- Player slides their hips to their trail side rather than turning them on the backswing. Obviously average golfers tend to struggle with getting enough weight forward on the downswing but if the hips don't turn, it makes it really hard to accomplish Key #2.

I'll add to the list of those above -

People who try to kill the ball by swinging as hard or fast as they possible can with no control.

People who have very poor posture or setup/address.

Not particularly targeted at any of your students or anything. . . :-P:-D:-D:-D

I agree, one thing I notice in many golfers is the hip slide thing. I almost want to tell them to "turn at the hips", please turn?

The other things in this thread, I probably do too, it's like the pot calling the kettle burned. . .

1.  Pulling club back with the arms in the backswing....usually low and inside...and getting the club stuck behind their body at the top.

2.  Compensating for move number one by 1) coming over the top or 2) pushing hips out of the way (forward) from the top with the hands and arms lagging way behind (flip or super steep into the ball).

No, I think you missed the joke that's all.. His first two are what typical people say that don't know any better.. Then he follows it up with what he really thinks.. Man there goes the joke if I have to explain it.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
