Is having their 50% off Golf-A-Thon

Looks like some pretty good deals for golf balls if anyone is in the market.

I thought there were several players on TST that liked the TopFlite Gamer balls and since they were 2 for $30 on their regular ones and 2 for $35 on their tour balls, figured it was a good deal.

I enjoyed the Game Soft and Supersoft last year, and I recently purchased the new Maxfli Softfli 3 piece low compression balls for $25 for 2 dozen at Dick's.    If they are similar to the Gamer Soft that would be fine.

Just bought some siftflis and noticed that all of the blogs refer to it as a 3 piece ball. I live the Wilson duo and was I terested in the Wilson spin so I was excited to learn that I could buy good 3 piece ball @ 2/$25. After doing some research I think DSG made a typo because pics of the ball cut in half show it being two pieces. I'm not totally bummed out because ill probably like the ball since the duo felt like butter off of forged blades but just thought that having a third layer would give me a little more stopping power on short pitches. Still can't wait to see how it performs.

I play the Softfli on a regular basis and believe that it is 3-piece as Maxfli states:

Stick scoring shots closer to the pin with SoftFli Golf Balls. Maxfli®'s softest golf ball features a 35 compression rating and delivers a blend of soft feel and greenside control. The soft ionomer blend cover outfitted with a 332 dimple pattern further promotes soft feel while generating more consistent flight for all swing speeds. A 3-piece construction equips Maxfli® SoftFli Golf Balls with decreased driver spin for explosive distance.
FEATURES:
  • Maxfli®'s softest golf ball designed to optimize feel and performance
  • Compared to the 85 compression of Maxfli® Revolution, the 35 compression of SoftFli allows for exceptional feel and greenside control
  • Designed to promote decreased driver spin for improved performance through longer carry distance and added control
  • Soft ionomer blend cover formula allows for added greenside spin and control in the scoring zone
  • 332 dimple pattern creates consistent flight characteristics for all swing speeds
  • 3-piece construction for optimized control and distance
  • Conforms to USGA Rules
  • 12-Pack
  • Maxfli

The picture of the halved ball however does look 2 piece in Golf Digest.

i went to the nearest Dick's and picked up several golf polo's that they had on super tent sale lol....  most were Hagen's for about 20$$   and one was a Slazenger for 50$  which i tried to haggle down in price with one of the girls who was out their working... but of course i didnt win..... :(  but she was quite attractive lol.....

And i picked up 2 dozen of the maxfli supersofts, to try them out...  I do like the Maxfli U/3's   but i figured i could try these out too and see how they compare.....

It is what it is

The USGA list of conforming balls lists the Softfli as 2 piece.  The Softfli works well for me so I plan to keep playing it, but the discrepancy between Dick's advertising and specs and the USGA list and the halved ball picture in GD is interesting.  I suspect someone is in hot water at Dick's Marketing.

I .just verified with Dicks that the Softfli is 2 piece construction - but it will remain my ball because of the distance I get and good performance on the green.  It does explain why the 3 piece Gamer Soft has the edge on the green for my swing over the 2 piece low compression non-urethane offerings.

Yeah, I get better stopping power with three price and up. Only made the duo spin back once and the Cally super soft a few times. The old three piece Wilson FG tour was better than both cant comment on the new four piece offering. Wasn't swinging well when I took the softflis out the other day, will have to give em another run before judging them. Can't beat the price though.

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
    • Do you have examples of exceptional scores versus their established handicap indexes?
    • Day 539, April 23, 2024 Mirror work once again. When I get back to swings, I'll just do it A. LOT.
    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
