Hello All,

I recently purchased an SM5 wedge on ebay (used) from two different users in the USA for a decent price used (both were between $75-$85). I know there have been problems before with counterfeit clubs made in China, but now as a heads up they being sold more and more through American sellers.

I went to my local golf store today to confirm the fake clubs and they indeed said they are excellent fakes. The employee said that this has been more common this winter. There seems to be a large batch of clubs that are fake being sold by individuals or golf stores as legitimate clubs. Just wanted to warn others to have you clubs checked if you do end up buying from ebay!

Ill post pictures of the fakes when I get home.

They are all made in China. Even the real ones.

My suggestion is that you do NOT get your ebay purchases checked by a pro unless you are paying for his time.

The other thing is that the average club pro is quite possibly less informed about these issues than the average Sandtrap addict.

His opinion may mean very little.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

The pro I went to was paid and is a Titleist rep who works at this store as well. I am just passing a message along to be extra mindful when purchasing online.

If buying from EBay, I'd buy from an on-line golf shop seller with 99.8% or better rating, with at least a few thousand reviews, and a good return policy.   Ask the seller for proof of authenticity, ask to post detail pictures, etc..   Fake golf gears (and others) are everywhere.

The only fake club (5W) I bought was through a Craig's list contact.  I didn't know it was fake until I bought the same model club (3W, 4W) from Ebay and compared them side by side.
