Hey Everyone,

I searched earlier and saw a few threads about MA golf, thought I would spark up a new one. I am itching to play and this winter has not been kind to us up here. Anyone out there playing yet?!

Courses are opening up.  I was supposed to play yesterday, but was ill.

Planning my trip to mass in August. I can't wait to play a few more courses on the cape than I did last time!

The cape has some of the best golf in MA! Which course did you play?

unfortunately only 1.. Sandwich hollows.

I played a few in plymouth near the cape, like Atlantic and one in onset and a couple I can't even remember their name now.

I played the sandwich muni course which surprisingly was very well kept for a busy course.

Can't remember the names of the par 3 courses I played, but I think I played about 3 or 4 of them (carver, wareham, plymouth)

Plymouth has some great courses. Pine Hills is probably one of the better know courses in MA and is excellent all around. Atlantic is one of my go-tos very nice.

That par 3 I think is Southers Marsh in plymouth, not to bad. I recommend Waverly Oaks and Crosswinds. They are cheaper and I think just as good as Pine Hills. As for the cape, try Bass River CC and Cape Cod CC or the Captains course.

That's the course where I met Erik and Dave.  I don't recall it being Olympic caliber.

I'm from NY but I happened to be visiting Boston this past weekend and played 9 at Newton Commonwealth (walking only). I never played it before and although the turf was a total swamp, I liked the layout....short but tricky. Hopefully I'll be able to visit again later in the season.

Driver: Callaway Mavrik 10*

Hybrid: Callaway Mavrik 20*

That place opens pretty early in the season, so I've played there a few times. IIRC it's a Donald Ross design, and like a lot of his courses in the area (Ponkapoag, Sandy Burr, George Wright), it's got a great layout but they don't really do much upkeep.
That's the course where I met Erik and Dave.  I don't recall it being Olympic caliber.
I've posted about it a few times. The USGA evaluated Ponky (as well as a bunch of other muni courses, including George Wright in Boston) in the wake of the first U.S. Open at Bethpage Black. It's a good design (and they like that it has 36 holes, so they could do press stuff and parking and practice ranges), but they would have had to put so much work into it. They don't water the course at all, and they simply don't do much upkeep. The rough is terrible in most places. Etc.

I played here yesterday. Place was in usual shape. Real shame no work goes into that course. Tough to judge how well or poor you really played with these conditions. Rumor was from others i talked with on the course is that they are doing a total revamp to course one then the same in 2016 to course 2.
