What is your biggest difference in score between outward & back nines? I bet there are some crackers. To start us off here is mine from the medal last weekend;

Out: 52 (17 over)

Back: 38 (3 over)

Handicap of 20.5 so I guess this is constitutes a 'normal' round for me.......

Was playing a new course after swing changes and shot a 59 on the front and then get it together and shot a 42 on the back. Didn't get to warm up before the round so was struggling hard on the front.

Mine isn't quite front 9-back 9, it is front 8 back 10.

I was playing my normal Monday morning game with my friend Jim, and had just bought some yellow Srixon balls that I decided to use. On this day I started with 4 bogeys and 4 double-bogeys. I can't remember the last time I was 12 over after 8 holes.  Anyway, on the ninth hole I changed back to my Pro V1 white ball, and for the next ten holes I shot even par with an eagle (105 yards with a pitching wedge), a birdie, 3 bogies and 5 pars.

12 over par for the first 8 holes and even par for the last 10. I finished with an 83 on a par 71 course. Amazing.

My local course started out as a 9 and later devoloped into a full 18, with the current first 4 and last 5 of the 18 making up the original 9. I've hit 37 for the 9 original holes and 63 for the other, total 100 score for 18.....talk about extremes! The original 9 are all quite short though.

I have had many rounds with with separate 9 holes scores that look like they were played by two different people.  Two rounds that stand out in memory are when I started with a 39 on the front and unraveled for a 59 on the back nine.  Another time I did the opposite and started with a 58 and managed to pull it together for a 38 on the back nine.  I guess it is a testament to my lack of consistency and the state of my mental game.

20 Handicappers shooting 9 holes < 40??

Is this common? I play off 18 and don't even think I've had a 42 yet?

52 front and 38 back.  The crazy thing was I had three birdies and an eagle on the day.

I've done something like front nine 38 back nine 45 before. Usually I'm with in a few strokes between nines.

When I was a teenager I shot a 51 followed by a 37.

Somewhat related, when I tried out for my high school team, I shot a +8 on the first hole, then +9 on the following 53 holes.

Golf was all mental for me back in the day...

Somewhat related, do you have any affiliation with the pangloss in candide?

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
