I've been Playing Golf for: 3 Years

My current handicap index or average score is: 18

My typical ball flight is: Fade with Driver, Straight with Irons

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Slice with the driver. Its killing my game. If I can manage to get off the tee well I can normally score really well but many of my rounds are ruined off the tee. On the rare occasion I can go a round good off the tee ill score well under my handicap.

Hello, newbie here from Scotland. I stumbled on this forum while search for other golf related info. I've always been one for tinkering with my swing, taking videos and doing a lot of analysing myself, more for my own learning so In future I can self assess and fix my own issues whilst on the go. I've had a few lessons over the time I've started to play golf. I play regularly and been finding I could really post a good score if I can just cure the driver issue. My iron play is generally good but once I get the driver in my hand things are very different. I know the club tips over causing it be a weak fade/slice. I've tried to keep my lead wrist from rotating left to soon in the downswing, also tried bumping the hips towards the target on the downswing to get the right shoulder down. When I look at some vids I took before of my iron play I can notice I am prone to tip over. There is only so much I can tell when I look at my swing myself. Id appreciate it if yous could share any things that you could see that would help my game out.

Thanks

John

Welcome to the site. Post a face on view if you can. I'd recommend taking a look at this thread and working on feeling more weight transfer forward on the downswing, will help you swing less across/more outward.

Apologise for the delay but the weather hasn't been great. Took this from yesterday. Look forward to hearing any comments.

In that face on video I've tried to implement what was on the how to hit a driver link. I've tried turning the hips without swaying, I think in the past I've definitely been prone to doing this.

    • You might want to try a can of Bar Keepers Friend. Yes, it is abrasive, so just wet a sponge and dab it on. It has oxalic acid (no bleach like "Comet" kitchen cleanser), and it works wonders on stainless steel and other metals. Try it on a small area first to see what happens.
    • Fair   My uneducated thought: the big miss is the penalty area. If you want to optimize score, missing into the bunker (likely 5) is better than missing right into the penalty (possible 6). With that, your strategy seems sound and if you hit a committed shot, you get a bunker 5% of the time, take your medicine and hopefully get a putt for par but accept bogey. You may find yourself in a penalty situation 2-3% of the time and accept the associated outcome. The vast majority of the time though you are giving yourself a good approach shot into the green.
    • I walk 30 mins a day on my lunch break. It is not very intense (since i dont want to get sweaty in my work clothes), so just a touch above leisurely. 3 days a week I walk on the treadmill for 60 mins. I alternate the incline from 4 to 10 for a couple minutes, once every ten minutes. I lift my kettlebells nearly everyday. I have a couple complex routines. I find just 15 minutes and my heart rates is elevated
