Chess Grandmaster Cheats in tournament - gets kicked out

What is wrong with this guy?  I like chess, and I like the mental challenge of it, always have.

I can understand there is a lot of pressure to win, but why would you ever consider doing what this guy did??  Running to the toilet after every move basically?  For a chess player he is an idiot!

For the same reason golfers use foot wedges, mulligans, forget to count strokes, etc when playing in a tournament.  They know they can't win playing by the rules and winning is all that's important to them.

Yeah, but have we seen this type of thing at the pga level?  This is literally like a pga guy throwing the ball out of the woods into the fairway while he thinks no one is looking, and then doing it on every hole he goes into the woods.

I'm still trying to figure out what in the world could have been running through his head?  Yeah, I will hide the phone in the toilet under some toilet papers, and then I'm going to make sure I enter move by move, and I'll show this guy!!

Yeah, it is pretty shocking to see this at grandmaster level. Though this guy was only a GM since last year and wasn't that well known.  But he was in a well known event playing in a match against a recognized long-time top 100 player. It's like if someone got into a PGA event by winning a state championship, and then was caught blatantly cheating in a match against someone like Angel Cabrera or Brian Harman.

It's hard to imagine how you could cheat this much in golf, though. Not really any equivalent there. But imagine if they had high-tech golf balls with built in GPS navigation systems and the ability to steer themselves by adjusting spin mid-flight.
