Yup, small bucket, unless I'm walking on by myself.

When I first made a post on TST I said I would play more often this season, and try to think about keys four and five. That has added a tiny bit more time on the practice tee.

I still subscribe to the Bruce Lietzke school of practice - minimal. I'll warm up if it's been many a moon since playing or if something bad creeped into my ball flight last time out.

90% of the time I'll do a quick full body stretch, and then get into my pre-shot routine for the first tee. This works for the older, more casual me - compared to when I was younger and would hit a dozen drivers before play, and then hit the first tee a little nervous or skeptical.

Like Mason said in The Rock - "Plans? ...it was all in my head!"

Yup, usually stretch for a few minutes, chip for 10 minutes, pitch for 10 minutes, then hit balls starting with short clubs working up to my driver, then I'll hit 5 of whatever I'm hitting on the first tee, then putt right before heading to #1.  It's a longer warmup but I seem to take a while to get in the groove and this has helped immensely, especially not going in cold for my short game.

Would if I could but usually don't either have the time or the desire to throw in another $5 on the round. But at this point I've gone to the first tee without hitting a ball enough times to learn how to start a round without it. Sometimes I think you're better off just doing some practice swings because if hit a few poor shots on the range it is tempting  to start fiddling with your swing.

This is a good point.

If I'm going to miss a few pitches, it'll happen in the first few holes.

Unless I'm playing a few times a week, I probably ought to hit a few short game shots pre-round.

Depends on the course. The 9 holer doesn't have one, so a few practice swings with the Torc swing thing. Another has such a pitiful range, it's hardly worth the effort. A couple of other places, I'll get a small bucket and swing mostly 7 irons to groove the muscles. I'll finish with maybe 6-8 balls using whatever club I'll use on the first hole. Sometimes it's a driver, sometimes a 3 wood. Then maybe 20 putts to get an GENERAL idea of how things are rolling. But I take those with a grain of salt- few have practice greens in the same shape as the course. At least the places I normally play.

Rarely but I am going to start hitting a few balls before every round. Hopping out of the car and heading for the 1st tee isn't working for me. Seems like I struggle for 2-3 holes if I don't. Last night I chunked a drive starting cold and was further out than I can hit a 3 wood on a par 4. Ugly stuff despite making a par.

Always unless its closed or not available. If I am playing a scheduled round I try to warm up for 30-45/60 minutes, starting with some wedges work through the bag then chip a few more and then putt and then finish with playing the first couple holes in my mind on the range.  If I am going out for a fun or practice round I just hit a few to loosen up.

Most of the times.  Without the warm up, it takes 3 - 4 holes for my swing to loosen up.  But I don't think it help my score if I warm up or not.

I've had unlimited driving range privileges since January 1996.  With that said, my last bucket of balls was hit in 1995.

I try hard to go before hand ... to loosen up, and see if it is a left or right day ... I also try to chip and putt

I do everything I can to make sure I get on the range first before I play.  I get a large bucket (more if I have lots of time) and start with wedges and small swings then work my way up, using at least every other club and ending with driver. After that I will hit a bunch of short chips and lob shots etc and also several putts.  On the rare occasions that there is no range or running late (very rare) I will just stretch and make a few loosening swings but I find I spend the first few holes hitting wayward shots and mishits.  I only started playing about 6 or 7 yrs ago, in my 50's. I usually play with more experienced golfers and quite often they don't warm up much, maybe once I have a better game I will be more comfortable with less warm up.

Hi, SteveH.

Don't you get tired toward 2nd half of the round when you hit a large bucket before the round?   If I spend too much time at range, I tend to lose focus toward the end of the round.

Thank you to the mods for the poll.

I'm still a bit of  newbie to the sandtrap and haven't tried to set up a poll on my own.

That aside,I went to the range this morning for 30 mins and practiced my fairway woods, then 10 mins on the putting green.

Shot 99.

I don't get tired. I tend to make my mistakes on the last couple of holes but, I think I psych myself out more and get nervous when I have a good round going. I do put in a lot of practice and play a lot of 9 hole rounds in low to mid 40's but have a tough time breaking 90 for 18.

I don't bother with the range as I don't want too many swing thoughts before I start my round. A few putts and stretches to loosen up then I'm off. When and if my swing becomes more reliable will be the time I feel confident enough to hit the range pre round.
