From my limited experience of having 5 lessons this years:

-B/c old bad habits have way of coming back, and/or you get caught between your old swing and new.   Until you make your last lesson completely yours by enough practice, you will have set backs.  Keep practicing what the instructor taught you.

I agree with Rick here.  It takes a while for the changes to become permanent.  The best way to continue to progress is to film your practice.  When you film, stop and review the film during practice to make sure you are doing your drills/swings correctly.  Practice should be very specific and not just hitting balls.

The thread below talks about this in detail.

Many of us also have a My Swing thread and post video of our practice there.  I would recommend this as well.

Because you stopped doing what you were doing in the lesson.

Changes take time.

* focus on what your instructor told you. My instructor took video and showed me when I did things the right way so that I'd have that image ingrained in my mind. Was I hitting the ball great when I was swinging right? No. Because it takes time.

* be patient. It takes time to make changes. This is why I bought a bundle from this particular instructor. Weekly lessons to keep me on track. I know he'd be giving me the same lesson week after week. It's just that if I didn't go weekly I would slip back.

* FWIW the first 10 shots I hit are crap. I know it. It just takes that long to loosen up.

* when you're hitting shots like crap, slow your swing tempo. stop your swing at different points to make sure you're where your supposed to be. Also take half swings, then 3/4 swings, then full swings. If you're not getting the ball in the air it's obvious that you're raising up.

Even if you get the grip, stance, and tempo right, it can sometimes be difficult at first to get ball position right.

If you are having trouble getting it in the air, one common problem might be that trying to hit it into the air can cause you to top it or thin it. This can also cause you to keep your weight too far back which might also cause slices. Getting the weight forward before contact, and hitting down on the ball, actually gets it into the air better. Try to hit the ground consistently about an inch or two past the ball.  Ball first, then ground.

The most accurate answer is this: it's golf.

What you had for breakfast on April 24th, 1999 dictates if you will hit fat or thin shots today.

When Saturn is in the lower quadrant of the northern hemisphere you will hit 14 GIR.

If there is a blood moon you will miss every fairway for 3 days fore and aft.

Never, and I repeat, NEVER swing a golf club on February 29th of a leap year.

Even par through 9 is my best.  I don't even want to think about what was my worst.

QFT It's not that it "stopped working", it's that you stopped doing it. Video is your friend, feels can change, video doesn't lie.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
