Got these new irons, 6 in all.  Swell Titleist forged cavity backs  from Japan.  But the darn grips are too thin for me.  I like 3/4 wraps of tape or mid-size grips.  Now it looks like i will need to change out these like-new grips. Big expense for me.

Need some kind of tape/wrap to go over the current grip to fatten them up. Any ideas on this? I recall my dad's grips were real leather in one long strip which was wrapped around the tape on the shaft.  Something like that might work if stuck on well enough.

Remove the grips with a grip remover like you can get at Hireko golf then wrap the shaft with blue painters tape and then blow on the grips with air. Check if you like them and readjust as required. Easy Peasy.

Like I said earlier, you need the grip remover tool, air probably won't work for removal of grips that were put on with sticky tape, but once you install with blue tape and air, on/off with air is no problemo.

Last Q.  Is there any way to know, without cutting the grip, if the grip has been installed with sticky tape?

Next Q.  What is this 'blue tape' and what makes it special?

Most golf stores and factory's install grips using the double sided sticky tape. Unless the previous owner had the clubs custom and asked for blue tape to be put on it will most likely be sticky tape. I don't think there is really any way to check, I would just assume The blue tape is just regular blue painters tape. If you are going to use it get the two or three inch wide version. There's nothing really special about it, it just makes it easier to pull the grips off in the future

If you try to blow off the grip and it doesn't come off easily, or the grip starts to bulge, it was sticky tape.

I use blue tape because it is easy to put on and off and I have it around the house. Any non sticky tape should work. Masking tape has a tendency to "rot" after awhile and it is messier to clean up when retapeing a shaft.

To remove grips with air....it's best to get one of those old style black bag tubes cut to the length of the grip.....then the grip won't bulge out.....you'll have twist the grip starting at the but end and work your way down. Good luck.

The work, if you want to call it that, is saving the old grip. Putting on the new grip takes all of 10 seconds.

    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
    • Day 96 (18 Mar 24) - Continued work with the Divot Board with the GW and hard foam balls.  Focused on small target/small miss…setup to hit target about 30yds out - success if it hit within 6’ circle of target, fail if outside.  Had decent success averaging about 3 out of 4 (hitting in groups of four).
