What is all involved with iron shafting? What kind of tools would be necessary for anyone to do this the right way?

Basically, if I bouth clubheads, and club shafts, what would I need to have to put them together besides epoxy?

Clubmaking etc is something I would like to start doing but I dont want to do it incorrectly. I want to get off to the right start.

I saw some videos online and it doesn't look all that complicated. All you really need is a vice and a rubber clamp to protect the shaft. The guy on the video cut the shaft with a really cheap looking hack saw. It looks pretty easy to do if you a standard spec guy, I could build clubs here (at least I think I could) but would have to shell out a 4-6 dollar cost per club to have my lie angles changed.

I guess I feel that it should be harder than putting some epoxy in and then cutting the shaft to length and altering lies. I hear guys in my league talk about finding the "center" of the shaft and stuff.

I watched the video on golfsmith.com, I think it can get a little more complicated with graphite but steel looked relatively simple. Prepare the tip with sandpaper, lube the tip and the ferrell and the inside of the iron, push it on... cut the butt, grip. I don't see how complicated it can get.

Good way to get an idea of what you're in for is to go to one of the introductory clubmaking schools at Golfworks, http://www.golfworks.com/article.asp_Q_ai_E_12 or http://www.golfsmith.com/cm/?PHPSESS...a71ee510758af3 .

If you do a search of GolfWRX then there are a few threads on the equipment that is required/needed to get started in clubmaking. http://www.hirekogolf.com/ , http://www.wishongolf.com/twforum/ , https://www.proclubmakers.org/ , http://www.golfsmith.com/cm/forum/gs...code=advanced1 are also supposed to have good clubmaking forums...

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
