I've been Playing Golf for: 15 Years (Quit for a few years in there)

My current handicap index or average score is: 7.4

My typical ball flight is: High fade

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Need to improve Driver / looking for more consistency in my irons.

P.S - I will upload some better videos next week...  Unfortunately, these were the only two I had.  Happy to finally start a My Swing Thread!  I can't wait to film some more swings and start working on things!!

Thanks!  Hopefully they're public now and able to be viewed.  I'll work on getting some better angles this weekend.

Your iron swing looks pretty good.  For the driver, your head moves back a few inches on the takeaway.  This forces you to make it all the way back and more on the downswing and get your weight forward.  I would focus on a centered body turn and keeping your head steady in the backswing with the driver.

You say you need to improve your driver but what is the problem with it?

I'd take a look at this thread, grip almost looks too strong and you set-up with a bent left arm. I'd make sure that left hand heel pad is on top of the grip and I think that will help the way the left arm "hangs" and allow you to set-up with the hands a little more forward.

Are you hitting the ball off the ground with your driver?

I used to push it out to the right or hit an occasional balloon slice.  I've worked on hitting the ball with a more upward motion and an ascending blow which has helped, but I still fear the slice with the driver.

Thanks, I will look at the grip- it is strong.  I do usually feel like I hold the grip more in my fingers but with a short thumb.  I'll pay some more attention to my grip.

I will post better video's within the next week to include one down the line as well.

Yes, I probably shouldn't have even put it up here - I only had two videos and was excited to post something to get started (like a kid with a new toy) and I wanted to make sure I knew how to upload the video (which was pretty easy).  I don't do it all the time but usually I hit it very consistent with a slight fade.  Unfortunately, I tried to kill that one and hit it pretty poorly, but it was playable  I will be posting my normal driver swing within the next week.

@mvmac The thread below has helped with my understanding of my driver swing (and probably what I need to continue working on).  I'll make sure to post a couple driver swings this weekend with better angles.

http://thesandtrap.com/t/77244/how-to-hit-a-driver-hit-it-further-and-stop-slicing

A while back I posted something regarding driver and there was a video posted about D Plane and hitting the ball with an ascending AoA (That helped as well).  That's what I've been working on, but I need to get more consistent with it and learn to trust it more.

Overall, still a very solid move JP. I can say definitely a single handicappers swing. Not bad at all.

Thanks.  If you see something though I need to improve, always feel free to share- I won't get offended.  I've never taken real lessons or anything and have pretty much been self taught - High school coach helped me focus on my mental approach (pre-shot routine etc.), and college coach - well, I was D III and I don't think our golf team was a priority (but we got free golf!!!).

I was lucky and picked up the game fairly quickly.  I understand some basic swing concepts and fundamentals, I figured out early what made the ball fade, draw, etc.  I've always been a believer in finding out what you need to focus on to make you perform the action you want - and then focusing on that.   I think I'll do okay once I'm able to see a few more real swings and get some feedback.  I should do okay and picking a priority piece and just working on that until I grove that aspect.  We will see.   I'm looking forward to learning some things about my swing and excited to work on improving again.

Other than suggestions above I suggest you really look at some of the drills that @boogielicious is doing for impact (look up his swing thread) where arms stay a little closer to the body through impact if you want to develop a draw move. Look at how his torso turns with his arms and how his chest keeps facing the club butt at and immediately after impact. That is THE draw move.

There is a lot of literature online about maintaining the triangle through the swing from some really credible sources so I also suggest you look that up too. 5SKs are great checks if you are doing it right especially key 1 and 2 would benefit you hugely.

Good luck and keep in touch. I am travelling a bit for work but let's try to get together in the next few weeks at Bide-a-wee. This weekend no good since I since this is mamma's weekend.

I think I'm going to focus a little on turning through the ball a little better.  Thanks @GolfLug I'm going to have to follow up on your comment above as I think you hit the nail on the head.  So really, my swing hasn't really improved any since May, I've really been working on my feel and trying to get my tempo down.  Trying to "feel smoother".

I do feel like I need to get a little more shaft lean at impact with my irons - improving my turn my help with that.

Great to be back on the forums - I've been swamped all summer!

Hi @JP golf. I'd review that grip thread again. Want to have the heel pad "on top" of the grip and that will get your left arm in a better position at address. Notice how bent the arm is, going to make it hard to have that left wrist flat at impact.

Then work on turning your hips more and turning them in place.

Thanks for the feedback @mvmac.  I appreciate you taking time to respond and give me some tips.  I did notice a few things from your post.  I do think bumping my hands forward at address will help straighten that left arm at address.

@mvmac The grip is going to be really tough to tackle and take a lot of work.  I wasn't getting what you were saying about the heel pad on top at all but I think I got it a little bit now.

Right and it's not just about getting the handle more forward, it's how the left arm "hangs". Yours needs to hang more in front of you, little bit more on top of the left pec. I think the grip part will really help with that.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
