I've seen quite a bit of love for this site but after my first order I'm quite disappointed. I ordered the 2014 1st grade balls. When I got them, 5 were logo over runs and 6 already had player markings, no big deal there, I'm not picky. Then I started looking closer. 3 balls had what I would consider substantial cart path damage. Definitely too much to consider putting with them so I put them aside as practice balls for the back yard, where my other cart path balls go. So I had 9 balls left, 2 looked quite dingy but other than that they all seemed to be in order. I played a round with one and noticed around hole 12 that it had a crack in the coating. Strange for what was said to be a 1st grade ball but I pulled another out and finished the round. I play that ball through the next round but I didn't check it's condition throughout the round because I figured the crack was an abnormality. Guess what? I went to start another round after that and noticed it too was cracked. Long story short I played 2 more of them, both of which also now have cracks in less than 2 rounds, one cracked after 1 hole when I played at Pinehurst this weekend! First hole I had ever played with it. I've never had this problem with Pro V1 balls before so I'm assuming it's a result of them being used or refurbished from LGB? Has anyone else had this experience? I plan on sending them a similar message but I wanted to make sure my experience was not typical before I expect to be compensated for my lousy order.

I apologize for having a spam URL in my signature and will not do it again.

I've ordered from Lostgolfballs.com for 3 years and have had nothing but a positive experience from them.   I'm sure if you call them and explain your findings they will send you replacements.  To my knowledge they only wash and sort the golf balls, they don't paint them or recoat them, so I'm not sure why 2 of them cracked.  I know some are fished out of water hazards so it's possible that the water damaged the cover.

Let us know how they respond.

I agree with this. They're selling used golf balls, so who knows what the history is with each individual ball. I have noticed that they do scuff and wear faster than a new ball out of the box and chips of the outer layer tend to come off. I used to buy from them a lot over the years, but I'm converting to new balls this year. The only thing I miss is the price: they're cheap enough that I won't mind losing a ball or three a round. ;-)

Used balls are used balls. Reconditioned balls are supposedly 'slightly' better. But buying USED balls is probably as hit or miss as walking along the treeline or swamp edge with a retriever. You might find a ProV1 and you could find "Joe's Generic". And depending how long it's been there, the generic might play better. And saying the balls are "1st Grade" balls means zilch. compared to what? There is no industry standard. Another company can say "5 star", or "premium", or "not bad", and they mean just that... in their eyes. One guys "5 Star" is another guys "not bad". And if they are selling them, they wouldn't call them "a bit scarred and discolored", No, those are "FOUR STAR" balls!

I've had nothing but good experiences with LGB.  Nothing like you described.  In fact, its time for me to re-up!

Anthony got back to me within 1 business day and apologized for the bad experience and said a new dozen would be shipped out. Mistakes happen, I get that, but they handled it quickly and to my satisfaction. Knowing they take care of their customers, I will most likely order another few dozen, pink this time? LOL

Post a picture of both dozen when you get them, so we can compare the two dozen?

Reconditioned balls are a much riskier proposition than used balls. You have no idea what they painted over.

Sure, I'll try to relocate the defective ones from my practice bucket.

Care to share the pink ball humor?

Well I figured pink ones were less common and less likely to be refinished? Not sure if that's true just a theory. I do like pink, though. :)

    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
    • Day 96 (18 Mar 24) - Continued work with the Divot Board with the GW and hard foam balls.  Focused on small target/small miss…setup to hit target about 30yds out - success if it hit within 6’ circle of target, fail if outside.  Had decent success averaging about 3 out of 4 (hitting in groups of four).
