I feel like I am adding loft with my short (9- sw) and have lost quite a bit of distance with these clubs. I am a pretty good player, and can usually figure out what I am doing wrong, but this is driving me nuts. Without seeing my swing, does anyone have any tips? Thanks.

Since you are a good player and can figure things out -- shaft deflection in those clubs adding loft (flex is weak)?

I switched from steel to graphite, but stayed with stiff flex. I tried my old clubs, but that didn't help. I really would like to blame the clubs. That would be a costly, but a quick fix.

Is it something that just started happening or has it been happening for a while?

Have you tried de-lofting the club by keeping your hands further ahead of the ball at address and seeing whether you get your typical distance back?

Is there a chance the grooves on your short irons/wedges are worn out and not imparting spin on the ball?

Did you change anything around the time you noticed this happening?

That's all I've got. I'm not an expert.

One drill that multiple instructors have taught for years is the old rotate the arms on the downswing so the left wrist/hand feels as if it is looking at the ground at impact - that should get rid of added loft - flat left wrist at impact (for righties).

Ball might be getting too far forward in your stance? Try moving it back an inch or two and then feeling like you really hold onto your right wrist bend through the shot -- see what that does to the flight.

Stretch.

Could be too much lateral side bend, but you'll never really know without taking a swing video.

This is the only way I can hit full wedges. Feels really far back there with my 56 and 61. Truth be told, I never hit full wedges unless I need to get over a tree or something.
