This is an obsolete American automobile:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REO_Motor_Car_Company

It is two syllables:  REE-oh

This is a Japanese golfer:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryo_Ishikawa

His name is one syllable:  Ryoh

If you really want to get technical, the o should be about double length of an English o, but ryoh is close enough for an English speaker.  But not REE-oh.

This is for those people at NBC, the Golf Channel, and anyone else who needs to know it.

But don't pronounce Ishikawa's name like he's an obsolete car.

Don't worry, I've never said his name like it's an obsolete American car. I sometimes pronounce it like its a sexy Brazilian city, and other times pronounce it like its a good kids movie, but never an old American car.

Call me crazy ... pronounce krāzē ... but I am think nether NBC, the Golf Channel or anyone else for that matter, check this forum on how pronounce someones name. However, I did learn something today ... even if I will probably still mispronounce it. (mainly because I mispronounce 3/4 of the english words I know)

Yeah, my brain won't let me pronounce an R-Y as anything but "ree."

For lunch, I'm thinking of having a pastrami sandwich on reeeeeee bread. Yum!
