Wells Fargo Championship

Thursday May 14 - Sunday May 17, 2015 Purse: $7,100,000 Winning Share: $1,278,000 FedExCup Points: 500 wellsfargochampionship.com

Quote:

CHARLOTTE N.C. – Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk will anchor the morning wave on Thursday at the Wells Fargo Championship , teeing off on the 10th tee at 8 a.m. (ET) with defending champion J.B. Holmes, but it will be the afternoon matinee that is sure to draw the most attention.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy , Patrick Reed and Ben Martin will head off the first tee at 1:20 p.m., 10 minutes before the threesome of Adam Scott , Henrik Stenson and Kevin Kisner.

McIlroy, who finished runner-up at Quail Hollow in 2012, has finished first (WGC-Cadillac Match Play) and tied for eighth (Players) in his last two starts, while Reed has not been playing his best golf, by his own admission, but already has a victory this season at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions .

Martin was solid last week at TPC Sawgrass (T-4) and Kisner has two runner-up finishes in his last three starts, including a playoff loss to Rickie Fowler on Sunday at The Players.

Other than his runner-up finish at the Masters, Mickelson has struggled this season, but Furyk ended a 100-event winless drought last month in Hilton Head Island, S.C., and finished second to Holmes last year at Quail Hollow.

I think we are gonna have another week of a playoff or at least interest at the end. Pretty decent talent pool. Bunch of guys that just missed out at TPC who gotta be thirsty for a win - Haas, Kisner, Martin. Couple guys who stunk it up that gotta also be thirsty for a rebound - Phil in particular. Quail Hollow to me favors the longer hitters more so.

I would think Rory can shine here this week. Also really like JB's chances again since he is playing so well this year.

I think it was very wise for Rory to play this week. Tiger should take a page out of his book. Rory is just building up the reps more and more for Chambers Bay.

Hopefully Quail Hollow isnt in complete shit condition like it was the past few years.

Tiger should really be teeing it up every week to get his reps. Regardless it will be a great tournament. Looking forward to it.

FYI, the odds for betting has nothing to do with the actual chance of winning.

They are mostly based on the number of bets people make.  The odds go up/down depending on how much people bet one way or another.  The bookies are simply trying to even out the payout so that they don't lose their shirt on the bet.

But I see your point.  Why in the world would anyone bet on Tiger to win the U.S. Open with his game clearly in tatters is beyond me.

Common myth, but no, bookies don't always try to even things out. In this particular case, for example, people are not betting "Tiger will not win" so there's not even anything against which to even it out.

Bookies gamble too. They'll take more money on one side fairly often. They know how things shake out…

Your first sentence is correct, though.

Lefty starts off w/ 2 birdies in a row, followed by a 300+ drive splitting the fairway.

Hoping he continues to play this well, whether you like him or not, the dude is exciting.

Would be good to see Lefty have a good four rounds and be in contention.

Yes - I was fortunate to win a Callaway staff bag and US Open flag - both signed by Phil.  I have both on display - won't use the bag but have it in the office. I pull for him regularly now.

And just like that, Phil is now 1 over....cripes. Double bogey, bogey, bogey.

That's Phil being Phil.  Haha.

One of the many reasons I love watching him play.  You just never know how it's going to shake out.

Indeed.

Rory is at -2 after 7. It should be on the Golf Channel now, but I don't know as my stream isn't working.

EDIT: It's working! GOLF TIME

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
