I would be interested.

DavePO43 and I have been talking, we think we can get both of our courses for a Saturday and Sunday.

So we would play Springfield G&CC; on one day and Stoneleigh G&CC; on the other day.  We both can bring 7 guests, which means we would have room for 6 players.  If there are more than 6 interested, I think we both might be able to get more players on if we play later in the day.

Anyone interest?

@jsgolfer I just moved to Montgomery County, MD from California.  I managed to play on Black Friday--it was cold and crowded and I played TERRIBLY for my only round of Q4 2015.  Looking forward to the spring; definitely keep me in mind if y'all do a spring outing.

I must've missed this thread earlier.

We had fun gathering at Timbers of Troy (up somewhere near BWI Airport) a while back- early 2014 maybe? I can dig up that thread of players (they came from pretty far away and BWI was somewhat central for that group of 12 or so golfers) and tag them to see if they're still around.

Other than Dan ( @dsc123 ), I'm not sure how many are still active on the forum.

It was a great time, and Dan found a fun course that worked for that group. It was further north than I typically go, but at that time, we needed to shift north to accommodate the group who was interested that weekend. 

@0ldblu3 plays in the Reston area, as I recall, so if he gets this, he might subscribe to the thread.

I missed the outing at Timbers of Troy (I think I suggested that course), but we should definitely do one this year.  Although I heard the Timbers at Troy was in awful shape. But there are plenty of nice courses in the Mid-Atlantic to play.  Also, depending on how may people want to play, @DaveP043 and I have considered doing an outing at both of our clubs, I believe we can both bring 7 guests on any given day to the course, we could play Stoneleigh and Springfield, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.  Now if we had more than 7 we might still be able to do it, but might take a little more planning.

If No. VA is too far for most to travel, there are plenty of courses around Baltimore/Washington DC area that would work for me.

Some of my favorite courses in the area:

Whiskey Creek - Ijamsville

Little Bennett, Worthington Manor and PB dye are all near Whiskey Creek as well.

Waverly Woods just outside of Baltimore used to be very nice.

Greystone (north of Baltimore off 83 and was my favorite public course in the Baltimore area) and the Woodlands are also very nice and challenging, another Baltimore County Course. 

Maryland National and Musket Ridge are also both very nice, near Frederick MD.

IIRC there was a pretty sizeable NOVA contingent.  We went north because we had at least one guy,  @divot dave coming from PA, and needed to split the difference.

I'd be up for it.  I usually play the Montgomery County courses but would be happy to play anywhere within an hour's drive or so.  Especially if it's some new, nice course I haven't played.

Whiskey Creek, Worthington Manor, Blue Mash and Waverly Woods are the nicer courses I've played in the past year.  They've all been in good shape.

As @jsgolfer mentioned, he and I have discussed doing a two-day outing at our home clubs, in Springfield and Round Hill, VA.  I'd happily attend any other semi-local event we could organize as well.

Man I left Hawaii in 2013! Been in the Mojave desert for 2 years, and just moved to Montgomery Village/ Gaithersburg last month.

      Took my wedges in to get regripped and saw the local store had some leftover Pure grips, was pretty excited to see those still around. Got those put onto my wedges, I love these grips, they have such a great feel to them. Also picked up a brand new (opened and second hand) Cleveland Huntington Beach putter for a great price! About %50 of retail. It had been purchased by someone else who decided to buy a different putter and was never used. I love the feel of it.

      You might want to try a can of Bar Keepers Friend. Yes, it is abrasive, so just wet a sponge and dab it on. It has oxalic acid (no bleach like "Comet" kitchen cleanser), and it works wonders on stainless steel and other metals. Try it on a small area first to see what happens.

      Fair   My uneducated thought: the big miss is the penalty area. If you want to optimize score, missing into the bunker (likely 5) is better than missing right into the penalty (possible 6). With that, your strategy seems sound and if you hit a committed shot, you get a bunker 5% of the time, take your medicine and hopefully get a putt for par but accept bogey. You may find yourself in a penalty situation 2-3% of the time and accept the associated outcome. The vast majority of the time though you are giving yourself a good approach shot into the green.
