Shot a 41, which is a good number for me. I can score lower but I'll take a 41 all day. Anyways.... 5 out of 7 fairways hit. 7 out of 9 greens hit, and one on the fringe. Basically 8 out of 9 greens. The other how was a double bogey. HOW THE EFF DID I SHOOT A 41?!?!?

It sounds to me like you three-putted three of the greens you hit (counting the fringe as a 'hit' and the subsequent shot as a putt for purposes of this analysis), plus an additional one for each birdie you made otherwise. I am assuming no eagles, as I think you would have mentioned that if you had one. As to whether or not this represents being a bad putter, I don't know. How far away was your birdie attempt from on the holes where you attempted such with a putter?

Lol...I suck so bad..... Yeah, 3 three putts. I three putted a third of the holes. Inexcusable. I three jacked from ten feet on one of them. Missed makeable birdie putts from 8, ten, eleven, fifteen and fifteen feet.

And those greens aren't that tough.

Man, Flippopotamus, you really did a number out there. :-P

Colin, evaluate it objectively. Makeable does not mean you are expected to make it. PGA Tour players are 50% from 8 feet. Even if you are as good as they are, that's a coin flip for that birdie; the other four birdie putts you'd expect to miss more often than you make. Hell, they're more likely to three-putt than two-putt from 40 feet or something like that.

Three-putt from ten feet is bad, though, I'll concede you that :-)

Unless you totally implode on the greens you miss, 7 of 9 greens should be par to +2. Work on that short game as Michael Breed suggest. ;)

Shit happens, especially early in the season. Great ball striking day. That should be your takeaway! The putter will come around.

Pretty much sums it up.   All I would add is that depending on where you play, the greens  may be inconsistent this time of year.   Mine are not terribly fast, but have a lot of undulation so they play fast.   Slow greens in April/May == lot of three putts because I couldn't adjust well enough.   Once they got smoother, the three putts went away. It'll come around.

Couldnt have said it better myself. Always leave the course thinking of the positives from the round, even if that means a coulple of top quality shots.

I would much rather have a good day ball-striking where I just couldn't quite get the ball in the hole, than a day of cruddy ball-striking, half-bladed chips, and the like, where I somehow scored well by improbable putting and a couple of otherwise lucky breaks. The former leaves me wanting to get back out on the course. The latter makes me want to dig the old tennis gear out of the attic!

Full-on ditto! Good ball-striker breeds confidence all through my game. Good putting just saves my score and doesn't necessarily pump me up for the next tee.

Hey, it could be worse. You could've been like me yesterday. Five fairways, 2 greens, AND 20 putts for a 46! But I was missing them close, LOL.

Seriously, you had some good ballstriking. That headgame called putting will come around.

Lost a match last week where I missed 3 short putts in 9 holes. I have been putting pretty well the last year, my stroke is a lot better than it used to be but sometimes shit happens, especially in this game.
