Anyone do it??

Man I must say..

My story is short,

I started playing when I was like 13 years old, playing=hitting balls at the range and going every so often with my dad to a course.

I was way to into baseball to get serious..

I got serious when I was 18 and started to average about 100, every time.

Then I stopped playing again and only once or twice a year ( if that ) till about 4 or so months ago..

Only this time I am super serious.. So serious I was hitting 1-teens and now get about 93-96 almost everytime I play.. I even broke into the 80's for the first time a couple weeks ago..

So I play almost 3x a week and go to the range almost everyday..

Today I played with my friend who always shoots horrible, We bet like 3 bucks a hole and started to play..

First off, I am slicing my driver so bad I can't even use it, I was so tired and so sore from playing so much, I couldn't even hit an iron..

I am at the level in my game these days where when the only time I mess up is on distance or my accuracy. Meaning, I can hit any club in my bag and it will go the way it should, but I might be off on the target or to short/long..

Not today... I was topping balls, digging 233feet into the ground. It was just horrible.. I was on track after the first 9, to hit like 150 for my total score..

I felt bad, but I just sat it out.. There was no point in me to keep trying.. I was mentally not there, and physically just worn out..

I am at this point, so pissed and just ready to give it up for some months..

Or maybe I should just sit it out for a couple weeks??

My friend played the best game in his life today and he is telling me its because he hasn't played in almost 2 weeks and his muscle memory set it? LOL

Anyone else with me? Anyone just sit golf out for a few weeks?

I will likely never in my life stop playing golf. Or at least as long as I'm physically and/or mentally able to.

Just take a week off from golf. It'll all come back as long as you just forget about it. I carded a nice 61 for nine holes back a few months ago (almost entirely penalty strokes), just called it quits and came back a week and shot one over. What can I say? I mean, it's golf. Urban Dictionary actually hit this one right on the head of the nail here: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=golf

I took 30 years off for school, family, and lots of other hobbies. I didn't realize how long that was till I started again.

just rest up a few days and start all over again, you will be amazed at what you learn about your swing. i did it when i got the shanks, had to reteach myself from square one how to hit a golf ball again. when you pick up the clubs again, swing SLOW. take your backswing and let gravity have your downswing.

Step back for a few days, maybe a week. Do some reading on golf. There are some great books out there and the internet is a great resource as well. Also, Youtube, many teaching pros post videos on there that are very helpful.

That way, you can stay dialed into the game of golf, but you're not out there frustrating yourself. Eventually(probably sooner, rather than later), you'll get the bug again and will be excited to get back out there.

I was just about at that point this year. Ill tell you why. I was at Bethpage Black and me and my buddy were playing from the tips. I had a problem for years fighting a hook and every so often it would come out and bite me in the ass.

Anyway I shoot a 43 on the front, now were are on the back and all of a sudden I cannot hit a tee shot to save my life. It was probably the most embarrasing golfing moments I have had. Especially at this course, it is a nightmare if you cannot advance the ball down the fairway a good distance and here I was duckhooking the ball left every time from about hole 12 on. We finish the round and I vow to my partner that I am done for a long time.

We've all been there before, at least most of us at one point im sure. So instead of me being done, I do my research, mostly on this site to figure out what I can do to fix it. The Fix: I got Hogans Five Lessons Book, I read the thing in two days, went to the range and now if you watch me play golf I basically do whatever it says in that book. The next book I got is Golf is not a Game of Perfect and this is another great read. Point im making is instead of giving up, do some research, work hard and conquer whatever it is you have going on. You'll beat it and be able to enjoy the game again. Hope it helps.

I started playing golf in the military at age 21. I LIVED for golf and became scratch in less then 3 years. I got out of the military, got divorced and decided to go the pro route (everyone I ever played with kept telling me I should be golfing) at the time I was a plus 2 handicap. I went and worked at a proshop and it was good for a while, the money was horrible, but I was living my dream since starting playing. Well I past my PAT for the PGA of America and saw how long and how much it would cost to get my card. INSANE!!!! so I went back to school, and got a real job. I realized at that moment that I got as far in golf as I was going to get and asked myself why I was still playing. ALSO I got very burned out on golf, for the 2 years I was running the PRO shop. I got to the point of coming off the course more unhappy then when I started. NOT to mention the time to play golf was getting (and for the most part) is still WAY too long. SO I quit for 5 years. I would play a scramble or two a year, just becuase co workers would ask me, or pay my entry fee (I could still shoot in the high 70's low 80's). Well LONG story short I have starting playing again this year about 5 months ago. WELL I actually enjoy playing agian. I have got back down near scratch, but just enjoy being out on the course with some of the old friends I made in golf. IF YOU take off some time, come back and DON'T keep score, play to play and be on the course. HIT balls on the range as a get away. IF you are not enjoying it then take a break, it will help.

Wow thanks.. I think what happened to me, was, when I got to my peak of constantly hitting 90's I thought a better driver would be great at this point..I went out and bought the hibore because I wanted to be a little different and I like the look and from the reviews it was a great club.. Well for some odd end reason, I slice every single time with this club, I am sure its just my swing and not the club, but I never did it with my 975 8.5 degree driver but now with this 10.5 I am slicing the ball like nuts.. So bad I have to compensate for it.. I thought it was the shaft and was sold on a new shaft, well its almost even worse now.. I then decide to get a new wedge instead of this cheater "RIP STOP" wedge I have been playing. And now all of a sudden I am hitting the ball to the right, its really horrible. I am so upset on the money I spent and the results are worse than before. That being said, I have a lesson this Sat. with my golf pro, I already had 2 and have 1 more left.. I told him I AM ONLY bringing my driver in, because I hit my irons fine.. I hope I can get rid of this slice and start driving the ball 240+ yards again, and not 150-180

DUDE! TAKE YOUR IRONS TO THE LESSON.

Why would I do that if I hit them PERFECT!!! And I hit my driver horrible, slice it about 100 yards to the right and it goes out about 180 yards max.. This will be my 4th lesson, I already worked on my irons and again I hit them perfect. Why would I bring in my irons if I am having problems with my driver?

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
