Generally for a golf tournament (specifically the US Open in a couple of weeks), if you were to go walk around on a practice day, which day is best?  Mon/Tue/Wed?

By best i mean most players playing/practicing, generally more relaxed, might get an autograph or something, etc..

On that note, is it cool to ask for an autograph on practice rounds? (during? before? after?)

Thanks!!

I went on all three practice days in 2008.  If I had to pick one I would have picked Tuesday.  Guys are still arriving on Monday and on Wednesday some of the players had tapered off but virtually everyone was out on Tuesday.  Autographs were OK between holes (I didn't try to get any).  The US Open site has a guide for people attending that sets out the rules for things like autographs and pictures.

Don't neglect the practice tee, short game practice area and putting green.  One of our best moments was by the practice green when we realized that one of the other spectators was the wife of one of the "unknowns" and got into a chat with her.  She was so incredibly proud of her husband getting into the Open.

If you are personable there are also lots of other interesting folks around who will be happy to chat with you.  We had an interesting chat with a guy from Australia who was a golf superintendent back home but was there as a volunteer to help with the course.  He was responsible for applying the chemicals (insecticides?  fertilizer?) to the greens for a group of holes.  We also had a chat with a couple of fellows who turned out to be Rules officials who were checking out a drop zone.  I even had a minute or so chat with Dottie Pepper.

You will have a great time.  I am envious.

Oh, make sure you allow a little time for the merchandise tent.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
