non-typical golf shoes??? who wears them

So i have not worn actual golf shoes since 2001 when i had some Nikes... while they was nice, after 18 holes my feet was usually screaming lol...  and then in 2008, i started wearing my softball cleats " turfs "  so its not a typical cleat...

And then in 2011, i got some Trail turfs similar but different, and stuck with them for a few years...till they finally wore out... tonight i ordered some new shoes... and with the traction pattern i decided to give them a try...

i went with the 39.99 color lol....   i've always been happy with their turf shoes, extremely comfortable...  I had been using their Resistance Trail shoes for work, and golfing, because they are nice and comfortable and still provide grip

If Vibram would come out with a golf version of their Five Fingers shoes, I'd wear them on the course in a heartbeat.  Most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.  I currently wear FootJoy Project M and would love to try a pair of True Linkswear shoes but I don't like any of their 2015 models - wish they still had the Sensei or the Lyt//Breathe.  I'm a big fan of the zero-drop/barefoot style shoes.

Most of the time I golf in Vibram walking/hiking shoes that I got at REI.  They're really comfortable to walk in.  The only problem with them is in the rain/wet.  Not waterproof and not great traction.  But when it's dry, I've never had a problem playing golf in them.

I do have an old pair of DryJoys that I use some times, but they really need to be replaced.  But on the other hand I don't really need golf shoes most of the time, so I haven't felt a real urge to get new ones.

Okay, so I just discovered that Vibram did come out with a golf-specific Five Fingers shoe (a couple models, actually).  So, putting my money where my mouth is, I just ordered a pair of the Vibram V-Classic golf shoes:

Just about as "non-typical" as you can get for golf shoes!  I'll add my thoughts on them in a week or so after they arrive and I've had time to wear them for a couple rounds.

Just for grins, I wore a pair of my old FiveFingers (Komodosport LS) for a round of golf today, just to see how they felt.  I've been wanting to try it for a long time but just never have, for whatever reason.  Comfort was outstanding (as I expected), almost as comfortable as if you were golfing barefoot.  The ability to feel the slope/contour of the playing surface was far superior to any golf shoe I've ever worn - you can really feel the green beneath you just as if you took your shoes off.  You're much more aware of the weight distribution on your feet when taking your stance and swinging, simply because you're able to feel it so much better.  It's also great in bunkers because you can feel the coarseness and firmness of the sand beneath your feet just in taking your stance, without risking a penalty for "testing the surface".  The Komodosport has a much smoother sole than the golf-specific V-Classic - I didn't have any issues with slippage while walking or swinging, but on a wet course I probably would have been wishing for the 'knobbier' V-Classic sole, which more closely resembles conventional spikeless golf shoes.

All in all, it left me wondering why I didn't try this sooner.  If I didn't have the V-Classics coming, I'd continue playing in the Komodosport LS (except maybe on our rare wet days), but the experience made me look even more forward to trying the V-Classics when they arrive.  They're definitely a non-typical/unconventional look (a friend says they look like the Incredible Hulk's feet), but I can easily get past that for the advantages they offer on the course.

Your other thread actually got me remembering how much I loved practicing putting in my fivefingers.  I have an old model of KSO's that just keep on going.  I decided to play in them today since we had some torrential rain earlier today and the course is absolutely soggy.  It was so much fun to go marching through all the puddles and standing water without worrying about my shoes getting wet!  I found like you did that I felt much more confident reading greens, I sunk more putts today than usual (might have been a mental thing but who cares?!).   I had no issues with traction with my KSO's today even with it being extremely wet.  But it might be because I have a smooth tempo even though I have a relatively fast swing (driver around 107), I don't tend to torque my feet very much.

I'm curious how you fare with those new versions.  I was going to get some new True Linkswear Motions but might consider these instead.

I was considering the True Linkswear Motions also, they're about the closest thing to a minimalist shoe that True is offering this year - but since they're not much different from my FootJoy M:Projects as far as minimalism goes, I couldn't see spending the money on what would be just another pair of shoes pretty much like what I already have.  I would have liked the True Sensei or Lyt:Breathe better, but they discontinued them and it's impossible to find them anywhere in my size.  I hadn't been to the FiveFingers website in a while and didn't realize they had released golf shoes, so when I saw them it was pretty much a no-brainer.

I'll post some pictures and my thoughts about the V-Classics as soon as I get in a couple rounds with them.

the five finger shoes are actually very comfy..

when i first bought mine, no lie when i first tried them on, i got my foot into them in like 10 seconds lol, and the salesman was like wtf, and asked if i've ever worn these before, cuz he's never seen someone just get their foot into them so quickly lol....

and Mac, i'll have to try my 5 fingers the next time i goto the driving range.....  and the golf version looks pretty nice, would be interesting to see how they feel when playing 18......

I'm with Vangator on the toe bit.  I don't think I could handle that.  I'll sometimes play in my Ecco sandals (no golf soles), but most often now I play in Merrell Moab Ventilator hiking shoes.  They are extremely comfortable, have great support, especially for walking on sidehills, and stay cool even when it's fairly warm out.  I have an ankle height model for trail hiking and the oxford cut model for golf and knocking around.

The Merrell's have Vibram soles, but not as aggressive a tread pattern as those shoes that the OP linked to.  They don't leave much if any impression on the greens, even for a heavyweight like me.
