Hello! Newbie here! I just recently played for the first time in 15 years(18 holes). I now have THE ITCH I was using my brothers clubs but want to buy a gently used set for my own now. I have done quite a bit of research and have narrowed it down to a couple of game improvement choices (price points are nearly the same ~$300): Mizuno JPX-EZ (not forged) Callaway X2-Hot. Both are standard length with graphite shafts. For those in the know, which set are better for a beginner? I think I've narrowed it down but I know there are a LOT of different clubs out there. I don't really want a million different opinions but If there are even better choices than these I'm all ears/eyes! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Go to the store and hit them both. Buy the one you hit better. Are you sure you want graphite in your irons?

Thanks for replying guys! No I'm not 100% sure I want graphite over steel but I've read Graphite is lighter for more speed while Steel allows more control. I'm 36 yrs old. I'm pretty strong (6-2 240)...my flexibility sucks lol

I guess the reason I was initially interested in graphite was I liked the idea of not having to swing so hard but still getting good distance. Of course on the flip side that will suffer when around the greens

For most guys, flexibility is an issue.

It takes about 20 minutes - and it's your entire body. Try Joey D, Roger Frederick, mytpi.com

Forget graphite. If you're strong, the lightweight used on most stock shafts will make the club feel like a twig and throw off your tempo (generally).

Steel shafts are typically shorter in length and that helps most people, lightweight steel is good but it may be too light for you. If you want to save money now, look at steel.

If you have tendonitis issues in your arms/shoulders now or in the future, heavier graphite is your answer -- but you do not typically find that on stock shafts.

Both irons are good -- find out which one fits your eye and the one that performs better if you can hit them beforehand.

    • Fair   My uneducated thought: the big miss is the penalty area. If you want to optimize score, missing into the bunker (likely 5) is better than missing right into the penalty (possible 6). With that, your strategy seems sound and if you hit a committed shot, you get a bunker 5% of the time, take your medicine and hopefully get a putt for par but accept bogey. You may find yourself in a penalty situation 2-3% of the time and accept the associated outcome. The vast majority of the time though you are giving yourself a good approach shot into the green.
    • I walk 30 mins a day on my lunch break. It is not very intense (since i dont want to get sweaty in my work clothes), so just a touch above leisurely. 3 days a week I walk on the treadmill for 60 mins. I alternate the incline from 4 to 10 for a couple minutes, once every ten minutes. I lift my kettlebells nearly everyday. I have a couple complex routines. I find just 15 minutes and my heart rates is elevated
