I have an odd question for anyone out there. Will an 84 mph driver swing speed and a light flex shaft compress a low compression ball enough for distance? Or should either the shaft flex or the ball compression be different? I hit a low compression ball much shorter using a light flex shaft?

Thanks,

Steve

First, welcome to The SandTrap.

As for your question.

Depends on the make and model of the golf shaft. You can have a something like a Diamana W-Series, 55 gram, regular flex compared to a Aldila NVS, 55 gram, regular flex and they would react completely different. Yet both are the same weight and flex type. Yet you might be able to hit both very well because your swing would adjust to how each golf shaft flexes or loads in the golf swing.

Flex is just a way for companies to break up make and models for more specific fitting. So you get fitted for a club, you find out you fit well with this clubhead, this make/model of golf shaft. Then you can fine tune the numbers by going up and down the flex.

I don't know much about compression with golf balls. So I can't answer about that. I really never even bothered looking up the compression. Golf ball companies hardly ever advertise it, so I doubt it is that important really.

Basically it is impossible to answer your question because there is no general standard on flex. Also we have no clue how your swing reacts to the club you are asking about.

If you want to be that specific. Go to a good club fitter. Get fitted for a driver, but bring your low compression golf balls to hit. Then you will be able to find a club that fits what you are looking for.
