I want to start weekly tournaments on the Par 3 course I work at. We did leagues at the last course I worked at , but I want this to be a variety of fun tournaments instead of a league. Is using handicaps the most fair way to do these? Or different flights? I have an idea of how I want to keep points and information documented in an excel, worksheet, but I want to know what would be the most fair way to pair players up.

Tournaments are nice but I think it would be tougher to get the turnout you want if people need to sign up for a separate event every week. The beauty of a league is that you can expect a similar turnout every week. You could just give the league a bit more of a tournament feel by using multiple formats throughout the season and adding some awards to each league day. And yes you will need to use handicaps if you plan on pairing folks up for better ball, alt shot, scramble, or any other format you choose to utilize.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I want to start weekly tournaments on the Par 3 course I work.. I want this to be a variety of fun tournaments instead of a league.

My thoughts:

Saturday or Sunday afternoon tournaments.  Have different golfer combinations each week, but use better ball format. Also, have two prizes. One for regular scoring and one for the Callaway system (http://golf.about.com/od/handicaps/l/blcallawaysys.htm)

Husband-wife

Father-son

Mother-daughter

Brother-brother

Brother-sister

Grandfather-grandchild

Co-workers

Boyfriend/Girlfriend (date night)

Also, on the last hole, have a closest to the pin contest.
