So im playing my round today and i was on a par 3 with some water to the right. It was 160 to the middle of the green. My first shot was right, and i couldnt see it land due to trees so i hit a provisional. I saw the provisional hit near the back of the green and i thought it kicked over. When i got near the green i found my ball about 30 yards from the hole and ended up with a par. When i went to pull the ball my provisional was in the hole. So i had my first ace(kinda) but it didnt count lol.

Yes I have made Par from the tee box ... on a par 3.

I've seen 2 guys knock a second ball into the hole on a par-3 after losing the first in a hazard. My brother in law actually has a hole-in-1 plaque for it. Ridiculous! The second guy was a good friend. I actually bought him a plaque but had them change the inscription to "hole-in-3"..... :-)

There's a replica of TPC Sawgrass #17 island green here in MB. I watched a guy dump his first swing into the water, then re-tee and "ace" it for an amazing par.

I parred a some par threes a couple of times after putting my first shot in the pond. I once knocked a ball in from 230 yards which is almost an ace, but still looked great as an  eagle on a par 4.

I've had both a hole in 3, and caddied for a woman that had one; and I've had an ace when no one was around to see it.

What do you do in that instance when you're playing alone and no one is with you to see it? Do you wait on the tee box for the next group? Yes..I guess it would be hard to prove that you had been standing there the whole time. So if you're alone it's "too bad, try again"?

Fred Couples holed out his second ball at the Players several years ago for a par.  I've seen a couple of eagle hole outs from the fairway in scrambles that the guys couldn't even count as personal accomplishments, because they weren't playing their own tee shots.

No, but I made a 4 footer for a par 4 after losing my original tee shot.

So basically it didn't matter if he found the first one or not, he got a par ;)

as far as I'm concerned I made it.   I don't need a plaque or anything else to enjoy it.   I asked the group in front of me, they were on the next tee, but they didn't see it.   I mentioned this in another thread...it got me out of buying drinks for the clubhouse, although I did go in and see if there was anyone I knew to buy a drink.  it was NFL week 1, so not too many people were around.   In fact that's how I ended up alone.   It was hole #12, and my partner left after 9 to watch the game.

Congrats! I've gotten close (my avatar is the closest I've gotten - about 2 weeks ago). Would be nice to have a witness but I can only imagine what it's like to see that ball drop.

My only ace is unofficial. My wife was riding with me, so I have a witness to say I am not fibbing, but it doesn't count because she wasn't playing.

Are you serious? I have never heard of that.

Others on here may have more detailed information, but my understanding is that for a hole in one to be officially registered, there has to be one or more playing witnesses. I don't know that it is a USGA thing, but rather commercial. If you make a hole in one, you can register, and if you ever make an additional one, you are eligible for prizes or some such.

Yeah, but who cares?  :)   If you made it, you made it.   I have all 4 balls from my hole in ones on my bar mirror.  Anyone who tells me one isn't official gets their drink yanked from their hand and shown the door!

Been in the same league for over 20 years.  Course we played at (at the time) had a par-3 right next to the clubhouse.  Water on the right, big sloped hill on the left.  Once everyone got done, we'd all pitch in a buck and play closest to the pin since we were the last group of the night.

One week, guy hits first, pulls it left up on the hill, everyone watches it bounce down off the hill, hit the stick, falls in the hole.  Nobody else got in that week.  :)
