I've picked up the new callaway xr fairway wood and hybrid with shafts that have the speed coat technology. I've read this is what the rough surface on the shaft is for. This will sound dumb but if I was to wipe mud or marks off them with a wet finger or if they get wet in the rain will this affect the performance?

I'd be more concerned with other aspects of your game.

Cleaning your club shouldn't damage it or effect performance. But let's face it, the "speed coat" doesn't do anything anyway. If you want a shaft that will actually boost your SS you can get a shaft that is a few grams lighter.
