If anyone ever has thought about Fantasy Golf this might be the week to try it out.  All new sign players will receive a free ticket to the 2.5 Million Dollar US Open Tournament.

Not trying to spam..just don't like people signing up and getting nothing out of it... doesn't help anyone!

G/L if your playing this weekend... Full list of rules are on that site right there !  Maybe we could get a discussion for strategy going?

I may roll the dice with Dustin Johnson..

Personally I'd like someone to explain to me how this kind of online gambling (ALL of this one-day fantasy stuff in various sports) is legal yet online poker is not.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Because it has been exempted, like horse racing and state lotteries.

It's about money.  Online poker is illegal basically because enough brick & mortar casinos convinced their reps to take their side.  Your local casino wants you to come inside and play there.  And since there is tax revenue from local casinos, the laws were passed that effectively outlawed online poker.

In summary, it's because politicians are hypocrites and crooks and belong in prison.

Well bascially the easiest way of describing it is.. 2006 Gaming Act declared online fantasy sports to be a game of skill not a game of luck.  The choices are yours to make unlike poker when you play with whats given to you.

Which is garbage.  There's easily more skill in poker than fantasy sports, although both should be considered games of skill.

I've been thinking about getting into daily fantasy.  Golf particularly.  But I'm the type that rarely bets unless it's (a) with another person where there's no vig or (b) I think I have an edge.  That's why I play poker.  I win.  But I haven't developed a solid strategy yet to determine whether or not I could regularly beat the vig.  When I do, I'll probably back test it (if I can) or try some other to way simulate results.  If it looks promising, at that point I'll put some money in it to give it a shot.

i'm in at DK for the US Open. current lineup:

Putnam ($6300) - relatively cheap, and it's his "home" course

Poulter ($7400) - apparently he's got an "undisclosed injury" but did play a practice round on Monday. might have to fade him

Reed ($8500) - only one MC so far this year. he's played CB previously.

Speith ($12600) - upside: game is in top form, his caddy is very familar with CB...downside: he's expensive and will be highly owned (my guess is > 50%)

Koepka ($7800) - after MC in early May, he's had two Top 20 in his last three starts

Kinser ($7000) - he's had three Top 10s in his last four starts....i'm just riding momentum and hoping he's low-owned due to lack of Big Name status

Not sure which site you're talking about, but I use Draft Kings. I just haven't dumped some money in there for a couple weeks. Not sure if I will before the US Open either.

There's a few big names that not many people are talking about. Hideki Matsuyama, Henrik Stenson, & Jason Day. I think they all have a great chance this weekend.

Yeah, and the Tennessee legislature once passed a law saying pi was equal to three.  It didn't make THAT true either.  Anyone (talking about the legislators, here, not you) who thinks fantasy sports is more skill based than poker is a peawit.  That is a pretext, not an explanation.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Dustin Johnson or Phil for me this week for the win.

I'm certainly pulling for the local guy (DJ) this week. Not only would I like to see him win a major, but I'm looking forward to my free R15 being delivered after he does.

Just make sure he knows what is/isnt considered sand trap!

Lol yes. Still a questionable ruling. But let's be honest, the guy is a physical specimen but he's no Einstein.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
